Please help! Need speaker advice!

Hi! I am a novice when it comes to home theater systems, so please excuse my ignorance and stupid questions.

I am planning to get someone speakers as a birthday gift, but being that I am very unknowledgable about this stuff, I was hoping that someone would be able to help me out.

The birthday boy has an Onkyo TX-DS777 receiver and a pair of B&W tower speakers (i think the model number is DM 604 S2, with a max output of 200 watts), which he uses as the front left and right speakers. Currently, he is using his aiwa stereo speakers to create the "surround sound" effect, and these are the speakers I would like to upgrade/replace.

So, i was just wondering what would be the best speakers to get and is there anything specifically i should be looking for?

ANY tips/suggestions would be appreciated!

Does he have a center channel speaker?

I would look at getting him some more B&W speakers. They sound excellent and at least for the center channel it would be best to have matching speakers. Look at the B&W LCR 600 for the center and B&W DM 602's for rears.

I agree with the others here. The 602's would be great surrounds, and the 600 a great center.

yeah i've decided to go with the 602s.

after not being able to find the series 2 lying around here my gf has agreed to buy em for me with one speaker counting towards mah bday, and the other towards xmas.

i can dig it :)
