wow.. Sort of shocked at number 4 on the list

4 Die Hard - Hans Gruber - Alan Rickman

He was a good villian but come on now.. number 4?!? I could see middle of the pack... Hey at least they nailed the top one..

Still a really neat list... Wonder if it was a big fight off who would win? I would guess it would come down to if Alien blood could melt the metal the T-1000 Terminator is made of or not.. Errrr but don't count out number 97 on the list.. I would guess the Lord of Darkness has a few tricks too.. heh

Thanks for posting the list, other wise I would I missed it..

26....Uh.....no.... He's the HERO!

100 Nope,
Spoiler:
it was all a dream/the rantings of a madman. It could be said that the supposed hero was actually the villain for making Caligari out to be that way in his telling of the story

I wont even go into the obvious omissions.

Alan Rickman as the Sheriff on Nottingham was the only reason to see that god awful remake of "Robin Hood" he chewed up the scenary in every scene.

I think some recognition should be given to the character of Pinhead in Clive Barker's Hellraiser series (1 and 2), actor Doug Bradley really gave a stellar performance and character depth to a villian that became as such due to unforseen circumstances.

Is that your list or some official list?

I didn't thoroughly read all of it, but is Eddie Dane from Miller's Crossing on there? If not he should be!!!

Yeah, but . . .
Spoiler:
Werner Krauss still plays a villain for the vast majority of the film. That's what this list is about, those chilling portrayals, not a black & white definition of good and evil.

Myself, I wouldn't consider these parts villains in the classic sense:

HAL 9000 - Douglas Rain (voice)
Alex - Malcolm McDowell
Harry Lime - Orson Welles
Nurse Ratched - Louise Fletcher
Tyler Durden - Brad Pitt
Clare Quilty - Peter Sellers
and some others on this list.

These are more like antagonistic forces to the film worlds around them. A lot of performances here are being a bit pigeonholed on this list.

Overall a good list...they really have a nice, wide variety in there. I'd probably change some of the rankings if it were my list - Jaws would have to be in the top 5 for sure - but I can't say I'm too upset with the content.

Although, I would have to find a way to get The Great Race - Professor Fate - Jack Lemmon in there somehow.

True! Totally true! Professor Fate should ask for a recount (or at least drop a bomb on the jury.)

I must admit I don't quite get what the goal of this list may be but still, it was pretty entertaining to look at.

Either you don't mean #26, or we have drastically different definitions of HERO

Oh - I have to disagree with you on that one. Alan Rickman - with his flagrantly non-period, Motley Crue aquanet hairdo - was the one element of Costner's "Robin Hood" that dragged the whole picture down. Apparently he thought he was playing the villain in some borscht-belt Mel Brooks' film.

For me - anytime someone mentions the word "scenery-chewing," it automatically equals "suck" in my mind.

A few of these (Bickle, Durden, Lime) are more antiheroes than villains. Glad to see some of my faves are on there -- Oldman in Leon, Malk in ITLOF. Not a single one by Walken; would've been nice to see TTDIDWYD.

Some of those entries seem to confuse "villain" with "antihero".

Nice to see Darth Vader on top.
I agree with most of the list, but it's true that they seem to have confused villian with antihero. I also think Professor Fate got snubbed.

I think it's a pretty good list in general. There are just sooooooo many wonderful villains

Here's some other good ones (I hope I didn't repeat any):
~ Desperate Hours, The (1955) / Humphrey Bogart / Glenn Griffin
~ Island of Lost Souls (1933) / Charles Laughton / Dr. Moreau
~ Hitch-Hiker, The (1953) / Frank Lovejoy / Gilbert Bowen
~ Bunker, The (1981) / Anthony Hopkins / Adolf Hitler
~ Key Largo (1948) / Edward G. Robinson / Johnny Rocco
~ Freaks (1932) / Olga Baclanova / Cleopatra
~ White Zombie (1932) / Bela Lugosi / 'Murder' Legendre
~ Black Cat, The (1934) / Boris Karloff / Hjalmar Poelzig
~ Raven, The (1935) / Bela Lugosi / Dr. Richard Vollin
~ Son of Frankenstein (1939) / Bela Lugosi / Ygor
~ Old Dark House, The (1932) / Brember Wills / Saul Femm
~ Mummy, The (1932) / Boris Karloff / Imhotep/Ardath Bey
~ Witness for the Prosecution (1957) / Tyrone Power / Leonard Stephen Vole
~ Rear Window (1954) / Raymond Burr / Lars Thorwald
~ Quick and the Dead, The (1995) / Gene Hackman / John Herod
~ Winchester '73 (1950) / Stephen McNally (I) / Dutch Henry Brown
~ Raw Deal (1948) / Raymond Burr / Rick Coyle
~ Westerner, The (1940) / Walter Brennan / Judge Roy W. Bean
~ Most Dangerous Game, The (1932) / Leslie Banks / Zaroff
~ Sea Wolf, The (1941) / Edward G. Robinson / 'Wolf' Larsen
~ Roaring Twenties, The (1939) / Humphrey Bogart / George Hally
~ Lifeboat (1944) / Walter Slezak / Willy
~ Beau Geste (1939) / Brian Donlevy / Sergeant Markoff

Now this was one mean character in one great movie! He didn't have a kind bone in his body

* I'd be interested to know what you think of the choices I've listed?

I agree that the exclusion of the Wet Bandits definitely devalues this list as a whole in my opinion. Very noticeable weak point to the list.

Also any Villains List without this guy is just plain silly....

or Vigo the Carpathian for that matter....WTF?

It's Vigo, you are like the buzzing of flies to him!

Hmm, Freddy Krueger, Mike Myers, and Leatherface...but no Jason Voorhees.

Another noticable omission: The Predator (from Predator).

Professor Moriaty?
Dr Praetorius from Bride of Frankenstein?

Jaws, Alien, and T-1000 were monsters, not villains.

I'm glad they got Richard III. Here's a guy who murdered his brother and proposed to the widow at the funeral.
