Does the X-box convert NTSC to PAL??

I have a standard NTSC TV, and I need to know if I can play PAL DVDs on my XBox. If it does convert them, does it do it well? Does the picture look normal? Any help would be appreciated.

Considering that there is a European version of the XBox specifically made for PAL, I can't imagine that it would have the hardware to convert NTSC to PAL and vice Versa straight from Microsoft. If it did, why would there be a separate European XBox?

If you bought a standard XBox at your local games store or online regular e-tailer, then I am guessing you are stuck with NTSC or PAL only. However if you specifically bought a Lik-Sang XBox (http://www.lik-sang.com), then you can play you PAL games and DVD's, as well as hacked games and all that. If you did that you probably already new about it, hence the purchase in the first place and wouldn't be asking, so I am guessing this is not the case.

If you would like to buy a region-free XBox, or mod your current one to play PAL DVD's but still want to use the XBox to play online, then you are most likely out of luck. Microsoft has shut down Lik-Sang and through their online service XBox live, they are now checking systems remotely for Mod-chips (http://www.xbreporter.com/microsoft_shuts_lik_sang.php).
