My current setup is a 27" JVC tv w/ my roommate's Hitachi DVD player. I'd like a receiver capable of Pro Logic II for my GameCube's surround sound. I also need to get some decent but inexpensive front, center, and surround speakers.

I'm currently a college student, so I can't really afford top of the line stuff, just enough to hold me over for a few years until I have a job. Definitely under $1000, but less would be great. I'm not too knowledgeable about home theater stuff, so any info about equipment and prices would be great.

Receiver: Onkyo SR-500 (Street Price $250)

Speakers: Any low end speakers from PSB, Paradigm, or Energy would be excellent choices. Here are some good deals on the PSB Alpha series:

I would try and audition the speakers at a local dealer before you buy.

Has anybody seen any Home Theatre in a Box systems that include a separate receiver capable of PL II?

That would probably be the best for my budget, if they exist.

Yamaha YHT-300 does, it is around $400, also some of the Kenwood systems do. Only entry level HTBs I would touch.

OK, I'm looking at two systems right now. The first is the one zargon mentioned, the Yamaha YHM-300, and the second is the Sony HT-DDW840.

There's also an Onkyo HT-S650, which looked a little more substantive, but it was a little more expensive.

All of these are listed at amazon, but I found them a little cheaper at etronics.com. Does anybody know anything about them?
