front speaker placements/48 inch widescreen tv

Can somebody tell me where i should place my front speakers in front of a 48 inch widescreen tv,how far apart,how close to the center channel? also what distance should i be sitting away from the screen? thank you ahead of time,David

I wouldn't place the speakers "In Front" of the HDTV but about even with it. Placing the speakers in front of the HDTV will cause your surround field to loose a lot of it's effects. Speech will sound artificially in front of the HDTV and not blend with the HDTV as you would want.

I would say 1 foot or so farther out from the HDTV so as to not get any picture distortion from the speakers (if their not shielded) and is anought to give you very nice seperation.

Second, I have a 47" Panny... My front towers sit on the left and right of the set, roughly 10" - 12" from each side I guess... My center channel sits on the set. The couch is roughly 7 1/2' - 8' from the screen. Works for me...

I have a 56" Mitsubishi. If you want to check out my pics you will see I built a spot in the wall for my HT but left it sticking out just far enough sop the speakers were still roughly even. I checked out some in walls but wasn't happy with the sound. There is a delay feature on many receivers which will adjust the sound differential for the center being in front of or behind the L & R.

As far as the distance that depends on what you are watching. I had about 10 - 11' eyeball to screen which was fine for most movies but for TV was just downright obnoxious, hence the wall modification. For DVD's any distance should be fine, for TV viewing you'll probably want at least 8 - 9' just my 2¢

Not nowing your room a good rule to start with is a equilateral triangle - your right and left speakers are on each on a corner and your seat is in the other. The center is in the middle of the two front straight in front on your seat.

You want to try and stay away from side walls if you can.

You also need to keep the recommend distance from the back wall as well. Some speakers are side loaded and work real well if they are about 2 to 3 feet from a 90 degree corner. This allows the necassery reflections.

But really, the best advice is: what sounds good in your room. Move them around and see what sounds good. See what gives you the best balance.
