Zelda coming out 12/3 in Japan
Planet Gamecube just updated their Japanese release dates with the info that Zelda is coming to the Gamecube in Japan on 12/3/02.
So I guess there's actually a chance of it making it's February U.S. date.
I thought for sure it would fall until next spring in Japan and next fall in the U.S.
It would be huge if they can get Zelda out in the U.S. in February. That's the slowest time of the year for games and as a result gamers are itching for something to play.
Having something the calibur of Zelda come out then could really sell some systems, and help Nintendo build on what should be a successful holiday sales season.

Translators probably are working on it right now, for a game with a lot of text I've heard that it takes around 3 months to translate. Plus if there's any voice overs they'd have to re-record them with american voice actors.
It's probably just too much work to ensure that it will be done before X-mas, inorder to have time to market it properly. They can't risk advertising for it for X-mas, and they having it not make the release date because the U.S. translation isn't finished.
Plus I'm sure they don't want to cut into the sales of Metroid Prime. Nintendo's good about spacing the release of games on their system (even taking third pary ones into consideration) in order to maximize sales of each game. That's one of the reasons they're so profitable.
For instance this is the current release slate:
Aug: Mario Sunshine
Sept: Star Fox Adventures
Oct: Resident Evil 0
Nov: Metroid Prime
Dec and Jan: Not sure
Feb: Zelda
Basically there spaced out so they can sell a bunch of a game, and then when people are done with it, there's an other huge game getting ready to come out. Obviously that isn't all the games they put out, as there are a handful of good GBA games (Castlevania and Metroid) and some other fairly big GCN games (Wario World, Mario Party 4) coming out this fall, but you get the idea.

Miyamoto on Zelda's release from Planet Gamecube:
"Miyamoto said he and his team are working very hard on the new Zelda title. He reiterated that he would try his hardest to have it out by the 2002 holiday season in Japan. He also mentioned that they are trying to release it in early 2003 in Europe as well as America. Also, the GBA version of Zelda is coming along quite well and will link up to the GameCube version. You will be able to do many different things with the link, but none of them were revealed."
