KISS DVD-player to support Divx

KISS DVD DP450, coming early 2003

- Playback of standard DVD-Video and Audio CD media
- Playback of MPEG-4, MP3, WMA and other downloaded formats
- Internal hard drive for direct video/audio file storage
- Progressive video and optional high definition output

Has Sigma Designs new EM8500-chip that does:

- Decodes Dolby Digital 5.1 -signal
- Supports 480p, 576p ja 720p progressive scan (PAL/NTSC)
- Does scaling for 1920x1080i ja 1280x720p
- DVI/HDCP ja HDMI/HDCP -compliant
- Supports DivX 4.02:ta and newer
- Shows JPEG-pictures

+Ethernet
+Keyboard
+Progressive Scan for PAL signal
+Plays MP3's from DVD-R

+Secret Menu for other options..

It was posted to one Finnish Hometheatre/DVD forum about a week ago. Some user had contacted the Kiss (a danish DVD-player manufacturer) who gave this information.

So basicly that player is just a compact HTPC with DVD-drive + remote control.

I sure most DivX files will look really bad on a large or even somewhat large TV set. But this is interesting news. Here some other recent DivX developments:

Why would Divx look bad on a tv? They looked fine with tvout a while back on a 32", and svcds (which are similar to divx) look great on our 36" tv.
