Microsoft making fun of ps2 online

I don't want this to be construed as trolling or favoritism, but this is quite funny. Microsoft apparanently sent this to ign.com, and it's a pretty funny gag. Perhaps they are upset that Sony beat them to the punch?

That's pretty stupid and I don't say that cause I only have a PS2.

It was lame for Microsoft to do that and lame that IGN printed it. And why would they put it in the PS2 section instead of the XBox section? That's really messed up. Glad I never shelled out my money for their Insider program.

This stuff has always happened in the industry. And this one WAS funny.

The only problem I have is that nobody's willing to put this sort of attitude into their advertising anymore. Just think of Sega's advertising mercilessly making fun of NES/SNES and GameBoy; there's no way Genesis catches on without that advertising which created a 'cool' image.

And Sony didn't hesitate in going for the throat with both Sega and Nintendo. Everybody remembers all the tv ads of Crash calling out "Plumber-boy" outside Nintendo's HQ, but how about their early holiday print ad showing all the new and upcoming PSX games, with the big headline, 'If you're still thinking about a Saturn, your head is in Uranus.'? Simply vicious.

For some reason, everybody has gone genteel. I still don't understand why Sega didn't replicate the tone of their SNES-launch ads when PS2 arrived. They made no effort at all to pierce the unrealistic hype that had built up. {Of course, I think they wasted all their advertising budget on Space Channel 5, anyway. }

I dunno. It is funny, but it makes MS look a bit childish and immature. This kind of thing should be left on the playgrounds.

As I mentioned in another thread, the part of the kit that makes fun of Sony for including both dial-up and broadband support is lame. The rest is pretty funny. I don't see what there is to get pissed about.

Obviously MS is upset because they know they'll never touch Sony this gen. One thing I still have is a old tape nintendo sent out making fun of Sony and Sega. The acting is awful, Nevertheless a classic! I think it did more harm then good for nintendo's image at the time.

I think it is hilarious !
It also proves that MS has a good attitude about this stuff and realize the position that they are in.

I'm sure it was. I'm serious.

But I'm sure MS being jealous of Sony was a large motivation for making that joke.

Your telling me to lighten up?

Why does everyone always have to be so pissy on these boards. Seriously, what I said is an honest and fair POV based on what happened.

Let me ask you this. Suppose the situation was reversed. Lets say the Xbox came out and cleaned up surpassing the PS2 and GC 8 to 1. Run away success killing all competitors in its way. Do you really think that if Sony still went ahead and released their online adapter MS would take the time to even pay attention to it?

That's what I wanna know. MS makes a funny/goofy rib at Sony and all of a sudden they are jealous losers who will never win, blah blah blah. It was a joke, don't take it seriously. But instead it's turned into another chance to bash MS (not that anyone needs a reason to do that around here).

Do you really think that if Sony still went ahead and released their online adapter MS would take the time to even pay attention to it?
As already mentioned, Sony is hardly innocent of dissing other companies with their Crash ads. I fully expect them to have a retort for this.

That's not what I meant. I know Sony and nintendo do the same stunts. My question was whether or not MS would take the time to play the joke had they been #1.

The question was in response to your belief that my assesment of MS being jealous was incorrect. I'm proposing that what I said is close to reality because I don't think MS would take the time to do this if they were killing Sony.

This is absolutely hilarious!!

I think the reason people are getting so pissy is because its XBox (and by extension - the evil empires game system). If its the PS2 (the people's gaming system) people making the joke, then everyone would call it classic and have a hearty laugh.

Jeff, you really do need to lighten up.

My NA is shipping out from EBgames as we speak and I think it's quite funny.

So what are the people like who own all three and enjoy all of them equally? I'd like to know where I fit in...
