Sly Cooper Demo Review
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
I was surprised to see this disc in my mailbox a few days ago, as I had already received a sampler disc, but was ready for a new platformer after finishing Jax and Daxter so many months ago. This game surely wasn't a disappointment. You play as Sly Cooper, a robber of sorts who is trying to get back his 'family book' which was stollen from him. To help him on his mission, he has a turtle friend who guides him through the land and tells him whatever he needs to know (Metal Gear???). Sly goes around collecting gold coins (100 of which will give him another life), messages in bottles (which, when you collect the predetermined amount, you will beable to open a safe to acquire a new move/skill), and keys (which allow you to pass to the next part of the land).
The attack part of the game is very simple. One hit will kill your enemies, and one hit from you enemies will kill you. You can collect horseshoes which will prevent you from going back to the last save point (conveniently shown by a fox popping out of a chest to take your picture) and continue on with you mission. The obsticles are quite fun. They include lights and laser, which, when they spot you, will turn to intense beams which fry you on next contact. You have to climb ropes, sneak around the edges of buildings, and jump like there's no tomorrow.
Overall, the game was fun. The graphics were great, the music was great, everything seems right on track for another great platformer. At the end of the demo, they show you a little preview movie showing some initial drawings and levels. Might be a strong contenter for Ratchet and Clank.

After playing both the Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper demos, I have to say I am very impressed with Sly and not so much with Ratchet.
I definately can not wait to see Sly's full version in action.

Yup, I got the demo too... seemed a little hard at first but I think it's defenitely a solid game. I'm never much a fan of stuff like this, but it has promise. I don't think it's anywhere near MGS (which I have seen it compared to) it's more like MGS Lite, if that.
I found the demo a little rushed though and confusing, objectives were sometimes very vague and I had no idea once I had finished it if it was over or not... I'm still not sure I did see the little highlight reel (which unfortunately showed mostly things we had already seen in the demo, I mean... they want to entice us with new stuff right?) but there was still a third glowing area behind a door that I couldn't get to.
Oh yeah, and having to listen to that mole everytime you played was pretty annoying. Should be a way to skip it whether you have heard it or not.
