EB Trade-In Exclusion List? (updated!)

EB has trade-in deals that allow you trade used games in for a copy of a new game. I that if it was possible to buy used games from a store and then give them to EB for the copy of a new game, I could possibly save some dvdtalkers (and myself) some cash. Right now, EB has a "trade 2 used games in for a copy of Mario Sunshine" deal, and I know a lot of people would drop 50 on this game, so hopefully, I can save some people some money and list games they can buy from a store for under 50 dollars and then return to EB for the copy of the game. Got it? So here's my work-in-progress list. Please feel free to add, because it needs some work.
***********
Please post the Bought Used (b.u.) price if it isn't listed ***********

Current EB Trade in Deals:

Trade in any two game and get a Sega Sports(2K) game free.

Accecptable trade-games:

PS2
Maximo ($9.99 at Blockbuster)
Half Life
Tekken Tag
Soldier of Fortune
Devil May Cry

Gamecube
All-Star Baseball 2003 ($9.99 at Target)
WWF Wrestlemania (39.99)
Eternal Darkness (44.99)

Xbox
Halo
Rallisport Challenge
Enclave
Morrowind

NON-ACCEPTABLE GAMES:

PS2 Greatest Hits
2002 Sports games (Any game that has newer edition is
definately not acceptable)

Current Best Bet:
Maximo can be found at Blockbuster for $9.99
All Star Baseball 2003 at Target for $9.99
Buy both, and trade in at EB to get a new copy of a Sega
Sports 2K3 Game
Total cost: 19.98
You could then even ebay Mario and make some money.
Sounds like a deal to me!

Please check over my compiled list, and if you find cheap prices for any of the acceptable games, please post the store name of the place you found it cheap. Thanks again.

I know they won't take any 2002 sports games. Also, I went in and tried to trade Azurik and Nightcaster (both for Xbox, both sealed) for the Mario deal and they wouldn't take either one. They told me it was because both games had recently dropped in price (they were free for me so I wasn't all the bothered).

Ok, so as of right now, they won't take Azurik or Nightcaster and none of the 2002 sports games. I'll keep track and post a definitive list if people keep telling me what they could and couldn't trade into EB.

EB No Trade-in List :

No 2002 Sports games (All Systems)

Xbox

1. Azurik
2. Nightcaster

Gamecube (Soon)

PS2(Soon)

It would probably be eaiser to keep a list of what was accepted, because the local store told me that the list is always changing something may not be on it one day then the next it is. They change every day or so, don't trust the list they have printed out as it may be old your best bet is to call the store and ask about specific titles your thinking of.

The EB near me said no to all PS2 "Greatest Hits" titles or their original versions. Also, no to PS2 State of Emergency & Salt Lake 2002.

I checked a few days ago and they said they would still take Maximo for PS2 for the deals. It can still be had at Blockbuster for 9.99 - $2 for the current sale.

I'd go with that for Mario.

I've traded in two of the same game for the 'Trade 2 Get 1 Free' before with no problem.

Some people have had luck doing this, but at both of my local stores that won't work. Must be two different titles.

Ok Edison is right, it is much easier and more helpful to post the games that are accepted by EB than to post the ones that aren't. So here's what I'm going to do. I'll change the list, but keep posted the general list of series of games that aren't accepted (i.e. PS2 Greatest hits, 2002 sports titles, etc.) Sound good? Post your suggestions for improvements to the list as well as your acceptable games in this thread. I'm going to try and figure out how to edit this thread and post the list at the top of the page.......

EB might still take a game in trade but not for the trade 2 get 1 deals. They offered $10 for my Onimusha on 8/8 but I decided to keep it instead.

I think it mostly depends on the new price of the game. If it has dropped in price to $30 or below then they won't take it, if it's still $50 new (and they can sell it for $48 used) then they'll take it.

Do they still offer the trade in 2 games and get 1 Sega Sports game?

EB Trade-in theory....

Okay, here are my two cents in regards to EB's Trade In Policy.

1. You can trade in 2002 sports games as long as their 2003 counterparts
are not available yet (i.e. you can trade in NBA 2k2 + another eligble game
for the NBA 2K3 preorder).

2. A game is eligible for the 2-for-1 deal only if it meets certain criteria,
namely how much EB sells it used for. Essentially, you should be safe if
EBgames.com sells the game for $24.99 or more. As always, it always
better to check directly with EB.

It must vary from store to store. When they told me they wouldn't take any 2002 sports games I was trying to trade in NHL 2002, the 2003 version doesn't ship until next month.

I traded in All-Star Baseball 2003 Gamecube (available at Target for $9.99) and Maximo for Mario. They said they would NOT allow 2 of the same game for the trade-in.

Ok, as far as I know, the only current deal at EB is for Super Mario Sunshine, and that only lasts until Preorders end. So that means Saturday, August 24th is the last day you can get Mario cheap at EB.

I have no idea what other games are offered, but from some posts in this thead I think that sports games are also up for the trade-in deal. Can anyone confirm this? Also, are there any other games for any of the three systems that have this deal? Like Star Fox Adventures, Turok or Timesplitters? If anyone can shed light on this, it will help make this thread a little bit more useful. So far so good!

The local EB here wasn't doing the 2 for 1 deal for Mario Sunshine. Just my typical bad luck.

I got $35 for the two games I took, so I guess it was better than nothing.

The local store told me preorder was good until release which is Tuesday 8/26 so you should be able to get in on this through Monday.

There is also a trade any 2 for Super Monkey Ball 2. There are about 6-7 for PS2, and XBOX but most of them were 2 or 3 titles from the same system (ie. get new xbox game --- with trade in of 2 xbox titles). I will look tomorrow to see all of the current offers.

Does EB take in Blockbuster games for trade if they have the disc shield on them?

I just traded in Halo and Rallisport Challenge to get NFL 2k3 for Xbox. On the display box for NFL 2k3, it said trade in 3 games and get this game free. I traded in Halo and they gave me $30, and Rallisport they game me $20. I only had to trade in 2. Why did they give me $30 for Halo? I was expecting like $15.

You hardly ever see a used copy of Halo on the shelves. It's a game people keep playing due to the multiplayer mode, so theres a high demand at EB to obtain used copies, hence the $30.

You got that right, I tried to get a used copy from EB for 2 months. I even called the store one day and the guy told me they had 2 copies left. I drove over a couple of hours later and they were gone. I shoud've had him hold one for me. The owner of the store said that more people have come in wanting Halo than any other single game and that's why he can't even keep new ones in stock.

I stopped buy Wal-Mart on the way home and bought a new one.
