Please Explain Madden's AI to me
I've determined this game cheats.
Not cheats in a "haha, look at him run THRU a player" cheating.
Cheating as in "oh look, it's 3rd and 22, even though you SHOULD be passing, we know you're running just to get into field goal range, so we'll set up a Blitz package".
Cheating as in "oh, look, it's 1st and 10, most teams run, but we know you're going to run a cross pattern, so we'll start in the Dime pattern".
Cheating as in "oh look , you've stopped us dead in our tracks for downs 1-3, ooh look, 45 yard pass to our 4th string receiver thru BOTH of your cornerbacks' hands"
Yes. Cheating.

It's just so many little things that bug me Kellehair.
(and Soup and I go way back, so his comment wasn't exactly unexpected).
Yes, blitzing on 3rd and long is understood, due to the fact that the QB is probably going to pass so he has to set himself up.
Ok, lets see, other stuff that pisses me off
It's 1st and 10, on the left hash mark. I set up a run to the left side, but i throw all my motion to the right. The defense uses a line shift and sets all the guys up to the left. RB walks into giant wall of fatasses.
The "big run" and "big catch" of the CPU that only happen when they are losing/in danger of losing.
The fact that if I challenge a play, it doesn't count if my receiver was pushed out of bounds, all they look at is the feet.
The fact atht he CPU KNOWS which plays to challenge. I've never seen the CPU blow a challenged call.
That fact that on Rookie, I win by 70 pts, but on Pro I lose by 3 Touchdowns. I tried compensating for that by playing with the slide bars to no avail.

I hate it when their running backs break like 10 tackles to get big yardage. Besides that, the A.I is fine. I won a challenge once! I challenged the spot of the ball and instead of a first down for them, it became 4th and inches. I've seen the CPU lose a challenge. They were challenging a fumble and lost.
I'm playing on All-Pro with the Bears and am 6-3 but all my losses came in Champaign. Freaking stupid outdoor stadium with turf.

I've heard alot of people say it cheats, especially in the 4th quarter.. I guess the 4th quarter comeback was a thing Madden games used to do, and they brought it back ???
Not sure, I have NFL 2k3, which I dont think cheats, but they definately get some "momentum" in the 4th quarter if they are down.

I agree that the AI is not cheating, but just difficult. I am playing my franchise on the All-Pro level, and it is taking me a while to get the hang of everything. Maybe i got used to NCAA2003, as i was rolling over oponents in that game. However, i was the UofMichigan in that, and i am the Lions in this game. Mike McMahon finally led my team to their 1st victory, now i am 1-4. I've noticed that the computer has the ability to break BIG runs more often. However, i have broken kick-off returns....i believe i already have 3 or 4 this season. GREAT GAME though....i love the fact that it is difficult.

In real football teams dont like getting shutout or blownout so they do everything in there power to score and not get shutout or try there asses off to get back into the game just like in maddens,I will admit there is a little EA screw going on but if people are not beating teams by 30-60 points they think there is a EA screw, infact ive seen way more screw go on in NCAA 2003 then I do with Maddens 2003,the AI is better then ever in Maddens,I play on All-Pro with my Bears and im glad teams give me a game and sometimes beats me,the game would suck if I or you won every game,if they gota screw a little bit to make it more competitive then so be it the game is great.

On the other hand, when teams have completely shut a weaker team down for 3 quarters and suddenly they become unstoppable in the 4th quarter, something's wrong. I'm referring to NCAA 2003 BTW, I haven't played Madden yet.
