What happened to simplicity can be fun?

I dled MacMame for my Ibook yesterday(by the by what a pain finiding roms without newsgroups, and p2p) and was playing galaga, and ms. Pacman, and I was thinking to myself how fun they still can be. don't get me wrong I like GTA, Metal Gear, and all the other advanced press every button games, but simplicity can be fun too, and except for puzzle games this faded away were are my dig- dugs, and racing games with brake and gas, and don't get me started on sports games can anyone say Tecmo Super Bowl for nes. If you have any suggestions let me know, because maybe I am missing some games.

Are you looking for suggestions of current games that are simple yet fun like the older generation you speak of? Or are you looking for older games that are simple/fun?

Super Monkey Ball! Most simple game I've played in a while. No buttons to press at all, just use the analog stick.

I am looking for new games in that style. And I totally forgot about monkey ball, and I apologize to everyone who loves that game like I do.

Halo was pretty simple for a FPS.

Only cary two weapons at once.
Even the vehicles are simple to controll.

I mean, compared to say.... Tibes 2, Halo is simple.

Armada was pretty simple (to the point of tedium), and I'm assuming the sequel will be as well.

I don't mean to start a fuss or question your reasons unjustly, but....

Why?
What turned you off?

Elaborate.

I just thought it was boring, it was another FPS of which there are more I would rather play. I thought the only carry 2 guns thing hurt this game I don't think it was a bad idea I just didn't like it in this game. A lot of people say that I don't like it because I am not good at it, but that is contrary because my friends love it an play it a lot and I beat them all the time. I just think that it was another FPS that I didn't need. Some people have told me that it was a system seller and that notion I laugh at. Anyways I don't mock those who do like it, but those are my thoughts.

Yeah there's something to be said about the joy of the the "old school games". You just played them for the sake of playing, see how long you could last. It wasn't about finishing it and getting the best ending. I love the nostalgia factor that my MAME brings me.

If you want great MAME games, look for the NEO GEO titles, especially Baseball Stars. I don't even like baseball games and I LOVE this game. It's got a great cartoony style and easy controls.

I have a lot of trouble finding ROMS that actually work. NBA Jam is a good example. I have about 5 different version, none of which work.

I used to be the Tecmo Bowl and Double Dribble champ on my block. Ahh the simpler time of gaming, just me my two thumbs, a cross pad, and A and B buttons.

Are you running the most current version of MAME? In most cases where a ROM doesn't work, an older release of MAME is the cause.

The upcoming GCN game Animal Crossing will include emulation for a number of old NES titles, to be played on your television or downloaded to your GBA.

ICO is very simplistic in controls and action but is wonderful to look out. It is the next generation's "Out of this World." Another vote for "Tecmo Super Bowl." Best football game ever.
