s video vs component

I am planing on borrowing a dvd player tonight and hooking it up with component to my new widescreen tv The one I have now is only s-video if I hook them up and compare will I notice a incredible difference? I ask this because I dont know anyone that has ever used component and I dont wanna spend money to upgrade if I cant notice a difference in the two

To my eyes, with my equipment, the diference is subtle, but noticable. YMMV.

I just puchased a new dvd player with component cables, and I did notice a difference from my old dvd player with s-video. The colors and edges look alot more smoother with component cable.

The difference will also get larger as the cables get longer.

Thanks for the link, chipmac.

It was very helpful for something that I, too, have always wondered about.
