Played Madden briefly at the store... Playing NFL 2k3 right now..

Am a big fan of Sega Sports NFL2k series, and 2K3 is great..

Though for the life of the series, this is the biggest change.. I am still getting used to some of the new stuff, and the gameplay is a bit different..

Love it though, and it seems to be jam-packed with stuff to do.. Franchise mode, Sega Sports Competition, LIVE support...

I've been playing 2K3 for the last hour and I have to say I'm quite pleased with it. As others have said, it seems to play a bit different from what I remember in 2K1 on the Dreamcast but I like the changes. It definitely seems to have gotten a little less arcadey (not that the previous versions were like NFL Blitz or anything) this time. There seems to be a ton of options and things to do. I definitely think that 2K3 has finally caught up to Madden in depth. I would recommend 2K3 to anyone trying to decide between it and Madden.

Maximum Passing allows you to lead your receiver or over/underthrow the ball to your receiver based on where the defender is. It's a bit tricky to use at first but useful once you get the hang of it.

EA should be ASHAMED of themselves. I bought Madden last night, and my friend and I were dissapointed, commentary was dull, replays and graphics were just ok. I took it back to Gamespot and exchanged it for Sega NFL2K3. WOW. My friend bought NFL Fever 2003, so i played had a chance to play all on my XBOX on my HDTV, in widescreen and normal with component video hookups. SEGA NFL2K3 is by FAR the BEST of the bunch. EA Sports will be pissin in their pants. Not arcady like NFL Fever 2003. This is mine and my friends' opinion. But my GOD, NFL2K3 litterally surprised me. Gameplay was very smooth, the graphics rocked, specially through the component hookup. Announcing was fast and not boring like Madden. Closeups after each play, that was friggin awesome on 2K3!!!. The ESPN presentation/look was very good. Give it a shot and compare it to Madden. I think it's a no contest win for SEGA!!!

Wow, glad to see you enjoy NFL 2k3 ILikeDVD.

I would have to agree that they have toned the "arcadeyness" down, I think its basically the perfect level of arcadey/sim now, probably near exact to Madden.

NFL Fever 2003 certainly looks better, but I do like NFL 2k3's graphics, and the presentation is top notch.

The audo commentary is spot on as always.

NFL 2k2 I loved for my Xbox, but it seemed like an upgraded Dreamcast game, with minor differences from NFL 2k1. NFL 2k3 is clearly a next generation Sega Sports game... Interesting to see what they do with NHL 2k3 and NBA 2k3...

For those that have played it -- is throwing a lob or a bullet determined by how long you hold the pass button, just like in Madden?

Thanks Tamrok. I still can't figure out how to do it. I didn't see anything about how to use Maximum Passing in the manual. It seems like they just assumed that you know what it is.

The game looks great, though. I just bought an XBox w/Halo (haven't even played that yet), and the Sportscenter broadcast when you first put in the game blew me away. Of course the last console I had was a Sega Genesis...

Have any of you played it for the Gamecube yet? Or is this based on PS2 and/or X-Box?

The GameCube version won't be out for another week (8/20 according to Sega).

Kojack, you've got alot of gaming there.

Honestly, with NFL 2k3 and Halo, you are set for a long time in gaming..

I have 6 games (and have played about 15-20) on Xbox... and I still play HALO the most.. It is my favorite game since NiGHTS...Into Dreams on Sega Saturn..

Still having problems with NFL 2k3 on Pro mode, might drop to rookie mode to get some practice..

DO NOT BUY NFL 2K3 IF YOU ARE A STEELERS FAN!!!!!!

I've held off buying a football game for $20 this summer in anticipation of getting this year's version where the Steelers are sweet. What do I get for $30 more and a summer of waiting???

Steelers Team Ranks (in NFL2k3):
Overall: 10th
Run Offense: 21st
Pass Offense: 16th
Run Defense: 1st
Pass Defense: 14th

also not a single player on the team is rated in the 90s

now even if you don't like them & regardless of how poor they looked in their first pre-season game, keep in mind that they re-signed all their important players and finished last season with the following ranks:
Total Offense: 3rd
Pass Offense: 21st
Run Offense: 1st (by 33 ypg over next closest team)
Overall Defense: 1st
Pass Defense: 4th
Run Defense: 1st

This alone is cause for me to give this game a thumbs down! Maybe I'm just bitter, but this also doesn't seem like that great a leap from NFL 2K1 for the DC (last sega sports game I've bought)

p.s. if anybody has Madden 2003 & is interested in trading straight up drop me an email (provided the Steelers are rated better in tha game of course... )

I imagine Sega Sports pays some independent rating firm for these #'s...

EA probably does the same, maybe even the same company?!

You are turning it on, correct? At the team select screen, you have to press X (ps2) or A (X-box) to turn it on. You will then see "Maximum Passing" on your controller icon.

I would imagine ESPN could have helpled them.

Well now that I have spent some time with game(5-1 with the Packers). I have to say that I LOVE IT! I will prolly cancel out this season and kick it up to pro. If you were on the fence with which game to get...GET 2k3!

Doubtful, the Steelers always have a high power ranking on NFL2Night. Has anyone looked at the rosters in this game? It's like some NFL fanboy made them based on fan voting for the pro bowl. It certainly doesn't seem like players were rated based on their performances last season.

I've always found that once you've mastered the game the player rankings take on less meaning. If you play long enough you could probably beat the Rams with the Panthers every time.

I have a few questions for those with the XBox version.

1) Is the game in Dolby Digital 5.1? If so how is it?

2) What functions do the black and white buttons have during a play (both on offense and defense)?
