View Full Version : Is Michael Vick a fantasy football starter?

I'm in a 10 team fantasy football league. I have 3 quarterbacks and I have no need for more than 2. I have Garcia, Vick, and Brady. I was thinking of trading Garcia because he can get me better value. What do you guys think? I want to trade Garcia for a quality rb. My only 2 rbs are Edge and Tiki Barber. I think I'm in serious need of another rb. Am i wrong in thinking Vick will have a great season? Thanks for any input

sure he is

he wouldnt be my fantasy starter
but Im sure some people will give him a shot.. and possibly even get some reward out of it..
if you have garcia.. i dont think you want to trade him.. because then you have to count on vick for the season, and thats one hell of a gamble

Im a falcons fan.. but have no faith in vick.. maybe if he was 6 inches taller and 20-40 lbs heavier

whats the scoring system and how many players at each position do you get to start? if you get 6 points per passed TD definately don't trade Garcia and even at 4 points a TD I wouldn't unless you got a top rb/wr (meaning moss/owens/faulk) and then a lower level player that would be used to cover a position during a bye week.

Its an espn league. Your lineup is: 1 qb, 1 rb, 2wr, 1 rb/wr, 1 te, 1 kicker, 1 d. all passing touchdowns are worth 4. Rushing tds are worth 6. The way i figure it is that vick and a good rb will more than make up for what garcia would give me. As i said, my only rbs are edge and tike barber. I would like another back that is better than barber.

edited to add that passing yards give you 1 pt for every 25 yards and rushing yards give you 1 pt for every 10 yards

only? edge is a great one.. which other rb are you going to get? try fishing around with vick and seeing if you can get a decent rb for him..
garcia is a safe pick
vick could be huge.. but its a big gamble that could be a complete bust.

By only, i mean that thats it. Theres no rbs on my bench. edge and barber. if someone goes down, it would be a huge loss. Especially with edge coming off surgery. (although i think he'll be back to normal)

not too much on the fa list. lamont jordan, dorsey levens, jonathan wells. thats about it.

dorsey is a solid backup pick.. although ahmad would have to get injured for dorsey to put up many points

Dorsey is playing in Philly now, backing up staley, i believe.

you can take a chance on a rookie

duckett, foster, travis stephens, william green, or portis (everyone does well in denver)

How about this as a trade proposal: I give Garcia and Troy Brown and I get Deuce Mccallister and Travis Henry. Then my lineup will be

QB: Vick, Brady
RB: Edge, Mccallister, Henry, Barber
WR: Jimmy Smith, Chris Chambers, Derrick Alexander, Santana Moss
TE: Gonzalez
K: Wilkens
D: green bay

garcia normally ends up ranked in the top 5 among fantasy points

deuce is unproven, but could possibly be big.. another gamble to toss in there with vick

make this trade.. and its possible you could have a good season.. and also possible you will end up dead last

That trade looks like you're giving up your 1st and 5-6th round picks for someones 4-5th and 12-14th round picks? I'd either try to get more or stick with Garcia

Garcia was my second round pick. Troy Brown was my 5th round pick. Deuce is a legitamite 2-3 round pick, and Henry is a 4th or 5th round pick.

Suprised Garcia lasted to 2nd round, but Deuce being a 2-3rd round pick don't know about that, he hasn't play much and even being the saints #1 RB I just see him being behind many other RBs (Faulk, James, Williams, Dillon, Green, Emmitt, Bettis and some others)

Deuce is a great #2 running back. He's a much better pick than Emmitt or Bettis.

My top 10 backs
Faulk,Green, Alexander, James, Williams, Dillon, Martin, Mccallister,Thomas,Holmes

I wouldn't make that trade. Stick with Garcia. Barring injury he will once again put up huge numbers.

Don't be silly. Trading a top five QB and going with a big ? for your starter? Might as well get out now, you're not going to win. Vick is still green and we are talking about the Falcons here... You're only as good as the talent that surrounds you. Is this a keeper league? If so, you'll want Vick for next year... If not, then trade Vick. You'll get a taker and you can get a good RB in return.

BTW, is Olandis Gary taken?

If Garcia was your 2nd round pick, who was your first? No offense but it doesn't look like you had a good draft. Also, I would not make that trade.

That's a terrible deal for you. Of course, if I were the other guy, I would jump on it.

Unless you play in 14 team leauge or more, you cannot get by with Vick (or Brady) as a starting QB. Vick will be great, but not this year.

What you need to be doing is obtaining Dominic Rhodes as insurance for Edge.

This is a good idea. I remember reading or hearing a report where they are talking about spliting some time between James & Rhodes since there is no drop off when Rhodes is in the game. If Edge gets injured, Rhodes will carry the load like last year.

I agree. His draft seems weak. My guess is that his top 5 was this:
1. James
2. Garcia
3. Smith
4. Gonzalez
5. Chambers or Barber

Not really good and trading Garcia away would make his team worse.

Chris,
don't make the trade unless you get a sure thing at RB. McCallister is unproven and was injury prone at Ole Miss. Henry might not even be the starter by opening day. (Competition from Richard Huntley and poor ypc last year). Try to get Dominic Rhodes or package Tony Gonzalez and Tiki Barber for a better RB and a slightly above average TE (10th-15th best, a guy like Ken Dilger or Roland Williams)

Evenflowddt, I agree with your assessment. However, I would bet that Gonzalez was his top pick. I am very curious to find out. Regardless, the #1 pick is a bust as taking James or Gonzalez that early is a waste. There is a clear 3-4 players in each of the top (QB, RB, WR) positions to take in the first round. Although getting Garcia in the 2nd round is a very good pick. Of all the picks, he is the one that I would not give up. Packaging some players, I agree, is the best option.

I assume that he had a swing pick (late 1st/early 2nd) and picked James/Garcia. Picking James in the late 1st is not necessarily a bad thing, but if you are going to invest a 1st on him, you have to make sure you grab Rhodes by the 6th or 7th.

Quarterback is a weird position. It's usually the highest point getter, depening on the scoring system, but every year there are QBs who don't get drafted high and put up pretty good numbers. I wouldn't call Vick a star yet. The Falcons WRs stink. Vick has plenty of talent, but is rawer than a player like Donovan McNabb. I don't think he'll be very good at QB this year with plenty of other options avaliable. I'd also stick with what you have right now.

Thank your for all of your advice. yeah, my first pick was James, and then Garcia. I agree my draft sucked and I'm just thinking of ways to improve. I tried to trade for Rhodes, but the guy never responded to me. I guess i'll just play 3wr/1 rb. (Edge/J.Smith, Tr. Brown, and Chambers.) The only thing I can do now is wait and see if something comes along.
