Need advice on purchasing DVD player...
I'm looking for a DVD player under $250. The main thing I'm looking for is a quality problem-free player in this price range that will play about any DVD currently on the market.
Also, I'm not really up on progressive scan and don't know if I need to look for this type of DVD player or not.
Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Progressive scan is a nice feature to have except you need to have a TV that can input component video signals. If you have a tv with these inputs, then you can use the progressive scan feature. If you have an HDTV, even better; the dvd will look amazing.
Are you looking for a region free dvd player than can play all region dvds and do pal&ntsc? If so, look at the Malata 520 or the JVC s500. If you are not looking for a region free dvd player, check out the Panasonic rp56 or for a littlemore money the panasonic rp91. These are some of the best players out there right now and are in ur pricerange.

I don't specifically have to have a region free DVD player. It'd be nice. The main thing is getting something that's going to give me as little trouble as possible for the money I want to spend and not have a problem playing the available DVDs on the market.

I would get the panasonic rp62. It retails for around $179 at places like best buy and it includes progressive scan using the sage chip!
