Loose N64 Analog Stick

Hey everyone. I borrowed my friend's N64 and the analog stick on his controller is very loose. Does anyone know how I can tighten it or can direct me to a site that shows how to tighten it? I don't know if this subject has been covered before here, but I did a quick search and came up with nothing. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you're SOL. The sticks are notorious for going bad, though it hasn't happened to any of mine. One change I'm glad they made on the GC.

Yeah, I know they were known for not lasting too long, but I thought I had heard of a way to fix this problem by opening up the controller itself and tightening some screw. Anybody know?

Yeah, there is a way to fix it. IGN64 might have an article about it somewhere.

I suggest you just forget about it though. I played with the same controller for 5 years and even though the stick felt loose it still played great.

I tried playing Zelda and Mario tonight, and although the stick was loose, it did still have the full range sensitivity. For those who've played Zelda: Ocarina of Time, does Link run full speed when you push the analog stick all the way to the right or left? I tried playing it tonight and he does a walking turn, and only runs full speed when I push the stick up or down. I've never played this before, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that or if it's the controller.
