I have a Dish 6000 HD receiver. When the receiver is in HD mode, non-HD signals look really bad (though component video inputs). I see lots of pixellation. But when the receiver is in SD mode (through S-video inputs), the signals tend to look better on the TV. Why is this?

Maybe the receiver is upconverting non-HD signals (480i) to HD (1080i), and is not doing it very well?

I don't know if it's 'not doing it well' or if what I'm seeing is the result of a regular upconversion. Before I bought the TV, I never thought I'd have this problem, hehe.

I had my Toshiba DST-3000 upconverting my Cable TV signal and it looked extremely horrible. Now, the cable is directly hook to the back of my TV. The upconversion of the DirecTV signal is not too bad; however, some channels tend to look better at 480i through S-Video.

Trouble is, you can't get good upconversion without spending more on the converter than you do on the TV.

Standard Def looks best when left alone, which is why I'm getting a good macro-capable remote, so I can switch between different setups with one button.

So when viewing non-HD signals, I should stick to using the S-video at 480i? IMO, that does look better than the upconverted component video signal.
