Hi

Does anyone know if there is a newer model coming out or should I pay the almost $1000 for the current model.

Does this unit have variable bit-rates for recording? This is an essential feature as micro-blocking and picture smearing will occur with some auto bit-rate settings.

Can you create your own "thumbnail picture indexes" as well as "text chapter titles?" I'm using the Pioneer PVR-9000, a professional Pioneer DVD recorder. They make a consumer version, the DVR-7000. Both units sell for almost double the
price of the unit that you are asking about, but THEY DO
offer the features that I've mentioned.

So far as I know, the DVDR1000 is their most recent consumer unit. If you are not using digital masters such as MiniDV, DVCAM
or Digital8, the unit that you have mentioned should be fine.
Digital sources are more critical when mastered to DVD,
therefore a variable bit-rate option is required.

Goodluck.

The DVD1000 is the older model. The latest is the DVDR985, which is much better and can be found for under $900.00 at Best Buy and such. It plays everything except DVD-RAM (yes, even DVD-R and DVD-RW though it records in DVD+R and DVD+RW).
