Like TOOL, APC? Check out...
The band Earshot, I just recently aquired a promo from my rep at WEA, and this band rocks. Granted, not even in the same league as TOOl and APC, but still quite good. The singer has a very similar voice to MJK, thus the comparison. The single is "get away" The album is supposed to come out later this month or in May, the date might have been changed. I guess they are also touring with Static X.

Yep, I'm on their street team and saw them in concert last month. Musically they aren't really anything like tool or apc, but the singers voice does resemble maynards more often than not.

If you like Tool you will like?
This is my question, having seen Tool 2 (soon to be 3) times, and chain listening to their music, I need something as good. Not neccesarily the same style, but the same level of talent.
Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing that you already know about Perfect Circle, the lead singer's side band? THey are great, too!
I'll be seeing Tool in Buffalo on 8/23- haven't seen them since 96...I'm psyched!!!! How are they this tour?

If you like Tool there's a good chance you'll like My Middle Finger.
Check 'em out: www.mymiddlefinger.com
Kind of a combination of Tool, King's X, Alice In Chains, and a little Pantera & Iron Maiden (just a little).
Cool stuff...
update 2-(OK, I knew the website would be back up, and it is.)

I saw TOOL at MSG in NYC and it maybe the most amazing sounding show I have been too, throw in the mind-boggling music and stage show you have a life experience.
anyway, I am really into INCUBUS right now. I know, its not really the same genre as TOOL, but if there are an amazing band that can give you that same experience. There are just so many sh*tty bands out there that its hard to find new ones.
I've been cranking lots of NINE INCH NAILS, NOTHING FACE, INCUBUS, KORN....
if you want some idie rock ideas let me know....

If you want a band that writes epic (often 10-minutes-plus) songs incorporating heavy and soft passages, and a vocalist with truly amazing range, check out Opeth: start with either "Still Life" or "Blackwater Park."
For another group with a unique vocalist in more of a 5-minute-power/thrash-metal-song context, "Dreaming Neon Black" by Nevermore is a good choice.
Speaking of thrash, if you want pure speed with very catchy riffs and energetic drumming, you might like "Beneath the Remains" by Sepultura.
If you're interested in the Scandinavian scene, you could start with "Sons of Northern Darkness" by Immortal, a flat-out awesome black metal CD.
Finally, for something that's plain old kickass Pantera-ish metal, you can't do much better than "Burn My Eyes" by Machine Head.

another vote for Opeth. They're an amazing act. However, I'd suggest Morningrise as a place to start.
Others to check out:
European/Gothic Metal:
Lacuna Coil (if you don't mind female vocals)
Theatre of Tragedy (specifically the album Aegis)...again, you need to like female vocals.
Progressive Metal:
Dream Theater
Fates Warning
Symphony X

Download "Benighted" or "To Bid You Farewell" for examples of the clean voice Opeth.

I'm not a fan of the vocalist's voice, though. He sounds too much like Billy Corgan (sp?) from the Smashing Pumpkins to me.

I just really like My Middle Finger - they're pretty cool. I only know a couple of Tool fans and I turned them on to these guys, and they have been pretty impressed with the music. Their reactions to the vocals has either been really positive, or really negative (not digging the Billy Corgan type of voice).
So I was curious as to what the Tool fans here would think...
