Here is the situation> My Sony GX800ES, Pro-Logic receiver, that I had since new, about 10 years, just crashed. In replacing it, I want to stay with Sony for ease of transition for my family to use. In audio (and computer) purchases I tend to stay a generation back for dollar value. I think this unit has all of the audio inputs I need. I will be powering:

Front: Paradigm Monitor 9
Center: Polk 275
Rear: Parasound
Sub: AR, powered

Monitor: Sony 43"
DVD: Panasonic 110
VHS: Mitso U70 SuperVHS
LD: Pioneer 201
Game: PS2

No CD, we use the DVD or LD and no cassette player.

I know this unit has been panned from time to time, but for $339.00, open box, is the value there? If not what do you suggest for that money?

IMHO, no.

If you owned an ES product you know about the build quailty and the longer warranty. I would replace it with another ES model.
