mho : Amazon for bankrupcy and takeover in a year

Its just my humble opinion but I don't get it why Amazon is expanding so fast to unfamlier territories , like there new sience and medical stores . Now I'm waiting for them to start selling astronauts space suits .

Didn't they learn anything from the toys and cars experiment ? Shouldn't it be wiser to concentrate on the home entarteinment market and try to get more competative as new e-retailers rivals are biting in the basic and profitable share of books / movies and music ?

I think Amazon is streching their brand name too far now , They are loosing the valuable concept of ( Books = Amazon ) , they are still burning cash at an alarming rate and should retreat to the books/movie/music/auctions formula that works well , if not the whole thing might blow in their faces one day and lead to a takeover of the ruined leftovers by some large b&m retailer .

.. and again I could be wrong , sorry for the spelling .

Not going to happen. At least not in the next year. Amazon has really cut their operating expenses recently...they even posted a profit in 4Q 2001. I don't think folks have associated Amazon with only Books for a long time now.

I'll have to disagree too. There have been a few points in the last 5 years that Amazon should've gone bankrupt, but didn't. It's only in the last year that they've actually turned a profit and things are looking good for the future. Unlike a good many other etailers, Amazon has had the funding and the loyal customer base to be able to experiment with it's business and marketing plans, which has made it a pretty strong and pretty smart company. They know Internet etailing like nobody else, and they've become the Sears or Walmart of the online world. Everyone knows their name, everyone trusts them.

Exactly. Besides if they spread into a venture and it doesn't work out for them, they should have no problem selling that venture off to a competetor. Many companies would do anything to lure loyal amazon.com customers.
