Steel Batallion News!

They're only making 10,000 copies of Steel Batallion. GameStop is getting 7,000 of those. If you want it, you better reserve it, the game is $200, $50 to reserve it. It comes with the 40 button + controller, and released mid Novemeber, I think on the 16th or 17th. Even if it sucks it will still be a collector's item.

I am interested in a link as well. The Gamespot getting 7/10ths of the total units is the hard thing to believe. I would think EB and the other major places wouldn't be fighting over just 3,000 units.

GameStop lists a release date of 11/19/02. The set is, as mentioned in the first post, $199.99, though there's an additional handling fee (presumably on top of any other shipping fees?) of $9.99.

I haven't been able to find anything about the 7,000/10,000 numbers.

How would they make any money if they only sold 10,000 copies.

Well, kegman, it is a $200 game. The market for a game that costs as much as the console is destined to be pretty small. I can believe the number of copies being released...but that GameStop would get 70% of them is a little tough to swallow. I would imagine the 10K number is just for the US and not worldwide.

I understand, but the price tag is prohibitively expensive for the majority of consumers.

All I can say is my info is COMPANY news. It does make sense GameStop would get 70 %, people will come to a game store to buy a $200 game, not Wal-Mart or Target, possibly Best Buy though, and EB stores do far less business. Now I can't claim 100% certainty, I don't work for Capcom, but just trying to give people a heads up.

I find this very hard to believe as well. The numbers just don't add up.

$200 x 10000 copies is only $2,000,000. In most markets that would be an abysmal failure. If I had to guess based on what I've been able to see of Steel Battalion, the budget would be at least 3 times that.

How would they ever make any money on it?

$200 for one game?

I think I will pass since I can buy 4 quality games for that price. Steel Batallion is suppose to be good, but an extra $150 for a controller. Try again Capcom.

I will just wait till the other 9,000 copies no one buys are clearanced down to $50 and get it then. Even if there is a big rush of collectors and it sells out I will get over it. Capcom is out of their minds.

Obviously the game isn't meant for people like you. It's being made for hardcore mech fans who are willing to pay more for a game that offers an extremely unique experience. And considering the controller and the design of the game around it, it does.

Exactly. I wouldn't call myself a hardcore mech fan, but I enjoyed playing this Mech game and drove 90 minutes or so just to play it at an arcade. Like I said, I'll be buying the game

I am a controller fan and a total sucker for any big, bulky, expensive controller of this sort.....and I am definately getting one.

As an aside, I hope Sega (the undisputed masters of the big, bulky, expensive controllers) keep up the production of controller specific games like on the DC like the twinsticks, maracas, fishing, etc..., man the DC was a big, bulky, expensive controller fan's wet dream.

It will be $217.47 from Gamestop, including "special handling fee".

Haven't decided if I want one or not. I'm thinking there may be a 10% off preorders eventually from gamestop.com or ebgames.com, probably worth it to wait.

For $200 this game better take full advantage of the Xbox hardware and really show what it can do.

No no no.

Mid 90's, they had this Virtua World place about 90 minutes from my house with a kickass mech game. They have it at some Dave and Busters now I believe, but the setup of the place they had it at was awesome.

Ouch, I was expecting the total price of the game and controller package to be $150, but $200? ****, forget that.
