I started out using the analog stick because it seemed I could move my character easier. Yesterday, I tried using the D-pad and I seemed to be able to pull off moves better. On the other hand, I got my mother-lovin' ass kicked by someone whom I had obliterated the time before. So which do you use and why?

I used the D-pad. The analog worked ok though. I just didn't like the DC controller in general. My thumb always slipped off the analog sticks hard plastic top.
I'm hoping the GCN analog stick will work well for SC2 though, as it's d-pad is too small to be functional IMO. I have a PS2 as well, but I've never cared for the Dual Shock's analog pad at all, and the PS2 version probably won't look quite as good. Not to mention the rumors of Link being in the GCN version.
The GCN stick should work though as it has a nice rubber top and my thumb doesn't fly of it, and the grooves around the stick make it easy to precisely hit one of the eight "digital" directions.

I have always hated the D-Pad, and I curse Nintendo for forcing it upon us.
I always figured it was simply to save money, not because it was a better control pad. Let's face it, the original Nintendo joysticks were very sub-standard. Even the original Atari 2600 joystick was better.

The D-pad was perfect for side scrolling 2D games. I hated the old atari joysticks.
Now most games are 3D so the analog stick is necessary. I still prefer to use the Dpad for 2D games though.
