Costing out "Battle Royale" DVD
I see that many people are interested in learning what the hoopla is all about, so I checked HKFlix.com this afternoon and see that Battle Royale (SE) is now available for $32.95. At present, the DVDtalk.com coupon for HKFlix.com isn't working, so I don't know if it is possible to get free shipping or not. I also checked Amazon.co.uk, and see that it is available for USD $31.59 (or, if you prefer, 21.07 pounds); and this includes shipping to the U.S. However, Amazon.co.uk offers a 3.00 pound reduction (USD $4.50) for first time customers. (See the pop-up ad.)
To summarize:
1. HKFLIX.com - $32.95 + shipping
2. Amazon.co.uk - $27.09 (first time customers; includes shipping to US)
Savings: $5.86

thanks for the coupon, i just made my first order from amazone.co.uk for this dvd. however, when i went to order the movie, it said the price was 17.99 pounds, i added it to my shopping cart and began the checkout and the price was reduced to 15.30 pounds. then i added that coupon and with shipping, the total came out to be 15.38. Maybe they just reduced the price of the dvd recently...maybe i got lucky....
anyway the total came out to be around $23.13 US

I didn't think the R3 version was substandard at all. I found it to be quite nice. I love this film. I may get the UK version if I can find it cheap enough... if not, the R3 version is plenty good to satisfy me.

No, they don't carry the new one (NTSC). The only one they have is the 1st Tartan release from 21 Jan 2002.

I got mine from Kevin at Bensonsworld. You have to special order it since it is not on the site. With their free shipping the total came to $30.00 (19.99 pounds) Make sure you state you want the new NTSC (TVD3385) version released this past May.

The NTSC Tartan disc is great, and definitely worth the trouble to acquire. Got mine for $27 shipped to the US from Amazon.

hmm, I broke down and ordered it... (dummy me! I forgot to use the coupon!)
But when I check my order, I see this:
I wonder if that means, "one on hand" for my order? Or "one" total in their inventory?
later,
Gabe
But when I check my order, I see this:
Items Ordered Price
1 of: Battle Royale [DVD]
£15.30
- Availability: 1 on hand
1 of: Battle Royale [DVD]
£15.30
- Availability: 1 on hand
later,
Gabe

The R3 disc is fine for me. I didn't notice any flaws and the picture looked quite good to me. I'm sure the new UK version is slightly better but it's not worth triple the price to me. As for it being R0, I could care less....all my players are region-free.

for the price, the R3 DVD from Universe is just fine.
Good subtitles and DTS soundtrack.
But the issues are:
1) the image is somewhat soft
2) the image has a blue tint to it
The Tartan NTSC version is a better choice, as it has subtitles, and the image quality is about as good the the best version available, the Japanese release, but this has no subtitles.

I ordered mine from Amazon.co.uk (for 15.38 pounds = $23.13 with the coupon) on Monday. 24 hours later I got an e-mail from them that it was shipped. Can't wait to receive it.

I think my Visa did not charge me for the conversion. When I placed the order, there was a hold for $23.13 placed on my card. When I looked today at my online statement, there is a charge for $23.81 from Amazon.co.uk. Either the extra 68 cents is the exchange charge or it could be that the pound value increased from the time I placed the order to the time my credit card was actually charged. This is still a bargain (at $23.81) compared to what other places are charging for this Region 0 release.

Hmm, appears to be limited availability now... (Mine came in a week ago, thanks!)
Cheers,
Gabe

Just got mine today. That was pretty good: I ordered it on Monday, it shipped on Tuesday and I receive it on Friday. This is quick for something shipped from England to the US. First time ordering from them (Amazon.co.uk) I have to say that I am satisfied and they sure are quick.
