Help! I'm Getting Screwed by Best Buy

I need some advice. I used my $10 GC from Ocean's 11 to pre-order A Beautiful Mind. It's always been my understanding that dispite what the preorder price says, you'll be charged the sale price the week it's out. They went and shipped ABM yesterday and charged me $22.99 + shipping + tax. I'm not happy, as I'm sure it'll be on sale next week. I called them up and they played stupid. "It says $22.99 on our website, what ad are you referring to?"
What should I do here? Should I wait until it's officially released next Tues and then call back? This is realy pi$$ing me off.

$17.99 is the price reported in the bargain forum.

You may want to quote their preorder price guarantee, which basically states that they only charge your the lower of the preorder price or the sale price at their website or in-store by the time it is released.

BestBuy does not Price Match from BestBuy.com orders so if you bought 22.99 on the website and its 17.99 in the store your out a couple of bucks. I hope you havent opened it yet so you can take it back.

Well, I did quote their policy, but she says that $22.99 is the price she sees on the screen. I asked if they could adjust the price when it comes out, but she kept playing dumb saying "I wouldn't want to comment on that" or something. It's really irritating that they ship their preorders before they adjust the price. And I can't take it back because I burned a $10 digital coupon on the purchase. What a hassel.

You're getting shafted. 5th_Wheel got it shipped for the lower price of $17.99, as posted in this thread.

Call them back and demand a credit or you'll dispute the charge. I get so tired of having to fight it out with these stores just to get them to abide by their own policies and then they make you feel like you're a criminal.

$17.99 on the site now. I'd call them or email them for sure now.

Thanks you two!
I checked on the web site earlier, but it never occurred to me to pop that DVD in the cart where it indeed does come up at $17.99.

I called CS back and talked to a different idiot. He told me "We don't have an online pre-order price policy". I then directed him to the big, bold Best Buy.com Pre-Order Price Guarantee on the top of the Coming Soon page
The "best" he could offer me is to fill out a case report that someone will look into in the "next 3-4 business days".

I have come to the well-reasoned, rational conclusion that
Best Buy.com Sucks!!!!!

Decker, when did you order it? I would definitely keep calling and raise hell until one of their CSRs yields...

If they don't yield, print out their online pre-order price guarantee page (under "Coming Soon") and send a polite but firm letter to BB HQ and said they if they don't give a damn, you would bring the issue to the attention of BBB, etc...

If they don't give a damn to their own promise, I would not give a damn to their reputation.

Well, yeah the CSR's are totally misinformed and ineffective. That really does suck but continuing to try to deal with them is a total waste of time. The sad fact is that if you read this forum you likely know more about the upcoming sale then their online employees. Seriously. It really is pitiful but it does appear to be the case. They really don't know what will be on sale next week. If you recall, there was a similar thread on the Blackhawk Down price. People got all upset and angry but the fact is that the price on my purchase was correctly adjusted without any action on my part. Many people had the same experience. Based on that, I advise you to chill for a few days and let the system work. If the price isn't correctly adjusted you can always nail them on it after release day.

This is still incorrect. It should be 17.99 + (1.53) tax + (2.98)shipping
and handling - $10.00 digital coupon for a total of about $12.50

This can be easily remedied

Dispute it with your CC company--much easier than dealing with BestBuy. That's it. Hold on to the DVD too and just file under the reason that they overcharged you. I LOVE credit cards, for the very reason that they will protect their money first and foremost (the money you used).

Today's update...

Well, just like ffje, I got a totally uninformed email. Here's mine:
Greetings from BestBuy.com. Thank you for your question(s) about:

*Pre-Order Pricing

Our system is showing that a price adjustment was already placed on your
ore-order. If you check your order through My Account, you will see that
you have been charged $22.99 for this DVD. This is the same price that is
being reflected on our website. Your new total, before the digital coupon,
is $27.22. A total of $17.22 was charged to your card on June 21, 2002.

We look forward to your next visit at www.BestBuy.com.

Sincerely,

BestBuy.Com Enterprise Customer Care

They flat out say they charged me too much, and then they thank me. I called a CSR, almost apoplectic. She agreed that they totally screwed up and gave me ANOTHER case number. Well see what happens this time.
BTW: Anyone get that digital coupon yet?

Well I just checked and they credited me back the correct amount. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't have corrected itself. If I do order again from them I'll be sure and wait for the price drop. This was rediculous. Still haven't received the digital coupon though.
