Info. on upcoming Sega games + date set for announcement of new Sonic game.
Just got this from www.segaworldweekly.com: Don't know if this stuff is old news already or not:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
< . > NEW Sonic - 26 Days To Go!
While red hot rumors continue to dash around the net
on Sonics next game, Sega are finally dishing out the
details... in a months time. Japan's World Hobby Fair
is the place, July 13 and 14 the dates. Sonic Team
will take the chance to reveal the next Sonic game, on
platforms unknown at this stage.
< . > Just The Tip Of The Panzer Dragoon Sword
Japan's famous Famitsu magazine recently had the
chance to sit down with two members of Smilebit,
developers of the new Panzer Dragoon Orta. Two
questions of particular interest included:
Famitsu: What does 'Orta' mean?
Mukiyama-san: I can't give away too much info, but it
has several meanings. First and foremost, it's the
name of the game's protagonist. However, as you
progress through the game you'll discover it has a
deeper meaning.
Kawagoe-san: It also symbolizes that this isn't just
the fourth game in the series. We had proposed naming
the game "Panzer Dragoon Fier," with "fier" being the
German word for four. Orta claims the legacy of the
Panzer series, but it also recognizes the previous
instalments as distinct. With the start of the new
century we wanted to do something new, and this game
serves notice of our intentions.
Famitsu: Another aspect of the Panzer series has been
its quality storylines. Can you shed some light on the
story of Orta?
Mukiyama-san: It follows the story laid out in
previous instalments, but there's a different feel
this time. Elements of the story come back hauntingly.
I'll say just this: in German the word "Orta" refers
to the tip of a sword. Of course, there's more to the
story than that literal definition. It's a play on
words, with double and possibly triple meanings.
Taking that into account, I think fans of the series
can guess at some aspects of the story.
< . > Sega Burnt Out
It's not often you get handed free money, although
this week Sega of Japan got just that with the rights
to publish Burnout.
Burnout is a PlayStation 2 racer that's earned
excellent reviews across the world, and now it's time
for a Japanese release. Sega will release the game on
the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, but best of all,
under the new name of Sega Grand Heat.
< . > They Don't Want To Kill Ya...
It seems the zombies in Sega's House of the Dead 3
have had a change of taste. New details on the
upcoming Xbox shooter reveal instead of using the
traditional number of lives, HoTD3 will take time off
your limit should you be hit by the undead. If you run
out of time before you defeat all the enemies, it's an
early grave for you.
Thankfully your new weapon, the Short Gun can aid in
saving time keeping those bodies on the ground. Each
bullet you fire will not only injure a zombie, but
continue to pass through his rotting corpse, and
injure any other beast unlucky enough to be behind
him.
Finally while no storyline has been revealed yet, we
do know the game will continue on from the first
title, rather than the more recent sequel.
< . > Evolution Of The Fittest
As you may remember from our Virtua Fighter History
feature a few weeks ago, all but the very first game
in the series have received upgraded re-releases over
the years. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution however, takes
the word "upgrade" to whole new heights.
First of all, AM2 introduces two new characters to the
virtua ring, including Brad Burns, a kick boxer, and
Hinogami Goh, a judo expert. Meanwhile the older
players get a new lick of paint in the form of extra
motion-captured animations, and new attacks. Players
can also further customize their fighters by changing
their eye or hair color.
The stages themselves have undergone the same updates,
with new weather effects such as rain or wind being
added to the mix.
But wait, yes there's still more. A new "Mission Mode"
will see players fight to complete specific tasks, for
example attack or block a certain number of times.
Combine that with an all new "Quest Mode", making use
of the VF.net card server, and you can earn money and
brand new items for your favourite character. Some of
these extra items even include bizarre hair cuts for
certain characters, and roller blades. Sadly the
roller blades can't be equipped.
Finally, of course it almost goes without saying this
new Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution is highly rumored to be
on it's way to the Xbox. Yu Suzuki did say Virtua
Fighter 4 wasn't in development for the Xbox, but this
game goes under a different title.
< . > SpikeOut Goes X-treme
Ever since it's arcade debut back in 1998, Sega fans
have begged for a home release of the un-official
Streets of Rage sequel, SpikeOut. Now the four player
co-op beat 'em up is finally on it's way to your
living room, well, providing you have an Xbox.
As well as making perfect use of the Xbox Live online
service, SpikeOut X-treme will also be further
graphically enhanced to bring the game into the 21st
century. More details as we get them.
< . > Your History Lesson On The GBA
Over the generations Yu Suzuki's arcade classics have
appeared on almost every Sega console in one form or
another. Now Outrun, Space Harrier, After Burner and
Super Hang On are heading to the GameBoy Advance in
the "Yu Suzuki Pack".
Before the Saturn, achieving arcade perfection in the
former mention games wasn't possible. But then again,
the Gameboy Advance has demonstrated potential beyond
the old Genesis and SNES in many an occasion.
< . > Dreamcast's Final Hurrah
This may be the last season for Sega and their
Dreamcast wearing Arsenal team, but what a way to go
out. Arsenal won the English Soccer League, and Cup
Double. Now many of the players are on the British
world cup team. Next season Arsenal are being
sponsored by a cellphone company.
< . > 2 Out Of 50 Ain't Bad, Right?
Still with just two titles in Japan's Top 50 Dengeki
sales Charts, we await Sega's next big hit.
This past week, Crazy Taxi on the GameCube fell ten
places to 29th, selling just 2,956 copies for a total
of 8,645. Meanwhile Let's Make J. League Pro Soccer
Club 2002 fell from Crazy Taxi's new spot to 36th,
selling 2,263 copies from it's 476,139 total.
