What can i get thats affordable and large enough? whats the cheapest widescreen? whats the cheapest widescreen HDTV? help please!

PS: i am pretty sure you measure screensize on a regular 4:3 square tv by diagonal. do you measure a widescreen screensize straight across from left to right?

is a 30" widescreen going to be too small? the couch will be 7' from the front of the television screen.

i saw this one at best buy:

if your not going to be watching any hd programing just get a 4:3... watching a movie on a 30 inch widescreen tv will be the same as watching on a 32inch 4:3... So if your going to watch some HD then i would recommend the 32inch 4:3 hd tv if not then get a 32inch or even 36inch flatscreen

I have the 47" Panasonic (PT-47WX49) > http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11056885&m=1&cat=24&scat=25

If you have a Best Buy in your area, stop in and check the price...They're clearing this model for the new one this fall. It is (was?) priced at $1484 here. This is an absolute steal at that price. The picture is excellent on DVDs and the set is very easy to tweak (http://www.panny.tv) for optimum picture.

I should add, however, that I have dedicated this set to strictly viewing DVDs through the 480p input... I have no point of reference for 4X3 analog or interlaced viewing, the picture could suck mighty, I'll never know... I have a 36" tube 4X3 for viewing "regular" programming.

johnny, that is a great price. i am going to go to best buy and check this out just for kicks....

while i think the projection widescreens are INCREDIBLE for dvd viewing, i HATE projection tvs for regular use! also, it might still be out my price range.....

i am starting to lean towards getting a 4:3 32" or 36" flat screen tv. they are way cheaper....the 32" flats start at like $750......and its a huge jump for the 36".....i think that for $1200+, a 30" widescreen will be too small. what do you think?

I agree... If you're going wide, you'll want the biggest screen that you can afford / fit into your living environment... 30" is too small IMHO. Especially @ $1,200. For a few hundred more you can have a much bigger screen... Of course, that rules out tubes and you'll have to go RP...

If you do a lot of 4X3 viewing (or gaming) then the flat screen 4X3 is a better solution for your needs for now... Personally, like you said, I wouldn't really recommend a RP 16X9 to someone for anything other than DVD or HDTV viewing...

i have pretty much decided on the Toshiba 32AF41 Flat 32" Tube.

I found it at best buy for $799, and it is stunning.

someday I'll get a widescreen hdtv, but not yet....

I just got one from Amazon for my In-laws. Right now they got one of those old fashioned 24" console TVs (Zenith). I hope they like the Toshiba. Should be a nice step up for them,.

if you're going to get 4:3 TV, make sure you got one with 16X9 anamorphic squeeze option....
my 27" Toshiba doesn't have this option... the picture was ok, but would be better if it has 16X9 squeeze option...
especially when you're going to get 32" or bigger...

hope it helps
