I just saw a review for the Boston Acoustic Micro 9000 home theater package. Are they worth $1000? What else might I consider in the same range? JBL s38 et al, or Acoustics' S2 Nucleus Micro System?

For $1000 you can choose from many excellent speaker companies. I would seek out a couple of dealers and find the speakers that you think sound the best. Brands I highly recommend are PSB, Paradigm, B&W, Mirage, and Definitive Tech. Personally I like the sound of Boston Acoustics, but I think that they are overpriced compared to some of the top Canadian brands.

I have owned the Boston Acoustic Micro 9000 series package for about 3 years now. They were definitely worth the money then and I'm sure they are worth it now. I think the package is a little different than the one I got, ie. more power in the sub.

Like skar said, I'd go listen to a few of the various packages that sell for your pricerange.

I've been very happy with them and am about to pair them with an Onkyo TX-SR600, which should arrive tomorrow.

I will third the above. Absolutely listen to a set. People have a tendency to either love or hate sub/micro-sat systems. Know where you fall and listen to other speaker sets your money can buy. You know how you like to listen and don't be afraid to bring in a favorite movie or cd to check things out. While it's easy to fall into the immediate gratification trap, if you find your taste runs a bit more expensive than you're budget can handle, don't be afraid to buy in stages. You will be much happier in the long run.
