Problem with JVC XV-D701

I have a JVC XV-D701, which I personally like very much. Some time ago, it quit reading discs. When I insert a disc, any disc, it's display reads 'no disc'. I tried cleaning it with a standard cd-rom cleaning disc. That didn't work, so I took it apart to clean the laser lens, that didn't work, either. Does anyone have experience with this? Any help is appreciated.

Try flashing the EPROM

When I used a 701 as my main player, I had to do this every once in awhile.

Hope this helps

1. Make sure that there is no disc in the tray.
2. Unplug the unit from the AC source.
3. While pressing both the "on screen" and "title" keys together, plug the AC cord back into the outlet.
4. Release the buttons, press "enter"
5. The resume light should light, and you'll get a message on the order of "Test JC2"
6. Press power to turn off....then again to turn it back on.
7. Try your disc again.

I thank you for the help. I followed step by step and things went as you said, however it still reads no disc. Upon a deeper investigation, I think it has something to do with the disc not spinning. I think it might be time to go shopping.

well, it was worth a shot.
sorry it's not working anymore. I had to retire my 701 about 8 months ago when it refused to read several of my newer discs.
