Queen of Pop?

We have the self-proclaimed King of Pop, Michael Jackson--I think he has slipped a bit, but that's another thread. Who do you think is the Queen of Pop? My vote goes to..................

Madonna

I somewhat agree with Madonna but for some reason she isn't going to get my vote.

I think my vote will go to Aretha Franklin. Enough said.

Aretha is the Queen of Soul, not pop.

Wouldn't the Queen of Pop be Ricky Martin?

Madonna, although I hate to draw an artistic parallel between her and Michael Jackson. He's stale.

If Michael Jackson is still the King of Pop, then the monarchy's in sorry shape indeed.

I think it was Pepsi that gave MJ that title, so if Madonna hadn't made that oh-so-controversial-for-the-80s video "Like a Prayer" then they probably wouldn't have dumped her before naming her the Queen.

Actually, it was MJ himself who started the whole "King of Pop" thing. You were right on the money in your first post when you called him the "self-proclaimed King of Pop". And he pretty much forced Mtv to call him K o P as well.

But other than that, the guy's pretty humble. Oh well, I prefer to remember Michael as he was from the days of Thriller.

My first inclination was to say Madonna as well. Don't know if she fits the bill as much as she used to though.

Why wouldn't she fit the bill? Her last cd's still sold very well (not including the GH Vol. III). Even Celine Dion or M. Carey can't say that.
