I just purchased a Toshiba 50HX81 HDTV Projection Television. The picture quality of DVD output using a progressive scan player is outstanding. However, the quality of regular TV broadcasted by my local cable provider is really bad. I never noticed such poor reception on my 27" Mitsubishi. In fact, when I watch the 27" the picture is very clear. Is there something I can do to enhance the quality of the picture on the Toshiba? Perhaps settings on the TV?!? I'm not sure if upgrading to Digital Cable will provide a better picture. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.....

You never noticed the bad reception because your screen wasn't so big ;)
Seriously, it's as simple as that. When I first hooked up Dish Network to my 61" Toshiba, the pixelazation drove me nuts, same as bad dvd transfers. The bigger the screen the more obvius the flaws in source material.

I am assuming that you current provider is not offering an HD signal. The only way around this is satellite. Digital cable SUCKS, plain and simple. Even those claiming to be delivering an "HD"
signal. Here on Long Island this is complete BULL! I have the same set and with direct tv my image is terrific. I can not wait for HD-DVD, then everything will be complete.

I've tested the new JVC D-VHS system over this set and...well I'm not as pleased as you might think. Sure it's 1080i, but network HD broadcasts actually look better to me. Granted the titles that I played in D-VHS were screener copies, but the image was not as good as I had hoped for. T2 looked disappointing, as the colors were drab and the whites were way to pumped up. HD-DVD will hopefully correct the the image problems that I've experienced so far with D-VHS.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your comments. I'm looking into a Dish Network package through our local Costco. I've heard mixed reviews on the quality and reliability of Dish Networks. Can anyone comment on this?

I spoke with my local cable provider (Detroit area) and to upgrade to Digital Cable it would run me around $50 a month. Well, Dish Network has a package that's less money (and its all digital).....
