Another Best Buy story
I needed a computer fast because a client had an emergency. I went to Best Buy and decided I might as well get two because I needed another one for another job in a week.
THEY WOULD ONLY SELL ME ONE PER DAY!
I can understand this if they wanted to limit quantities of sale items, but these computers were not on sale.
Then, I had to wait in the tech support line to buy the computer. I made it clear that I didn't want them to test the machine before I left, but I had to buy it at that cash register. After waiting ten minutes and the line did not move at all, I just left (I was estimating at least a half hour more wait time).
I went a block away to CompUSA, could buy all the computers I wanted, and was in and out in less that ten minutes, and paid the same price.
I don't think I will be buying any more computers from Best Buy.

Thats B.S.
I know for a fact they can sell more than that "per day"
I remember the manager at the store i worked at would always gloat about how 20 some computers were sold to a school/business and how someone in computers was good enough to "attach" (see: offer service plans so on) stuff to each computer.

sorry, one per day
This must be a new policy at Best Buy. In the past, I have been able to buy two computers at once (I buy a lot of computers).
The manager revealed to me that there was a loophole - I could order more than one on the web for in store pickup. Big deal - I might as well have them delivered to my house rather than making a special trip to pick them up!

If you didn't buy their extended warranty with the one computer, they might have ad-libbed the "one per day" nonsense so that you wouldn't be buying two computers without any extended warranties, which hurts their numbers.
Similar to what you'll hear every once in a while, when someone is trying to buy a big-ticket item (usually a big screen TV or something) and doesn't want the warranty, and is then told that they're suddenly "out of stock" on the item.
There is no such limit on how many computers someone can buy at Best Buy.

I prolly know why they didn't let you buy two computers. Lemme guess they offered there service plan (extended warranty) and you said no, thats why they didn't sell you two. Reason being is that each store and department is ranked on its percentage of service plan to revenue they do. If you go in and buy two computers with no accessories or service plans then there ratio takes a hard hit. Basically there jobs are depended on having a good rank for there department and store. There employees ares are pressured by there managers and supervisors to attach service plans and accessories. Thats why some of them don't know anything about computers since they will hire someone whose a awsome salesmen over a knowledgeble guy. If you came in and said I want 5 computers and service plans on each computer then they would be treating you like a god. How do I know this, its because I do.
they do have internet access in there stores, but only bestbuy.com though.

No coke, pepsi
We didn't even get to the extended warranty phase of the sale, although they probably figured that I wasn't going to get one.
Maybe I could have ordered from their website in the store and picked it up THEN, but I thought I would have to come back for it another time. At any rate, I ended up spending less time by going over to CompUSA.
I'll write to Best Buy hq and see if I can get a straight answer on this.
POWERBOMB: I was not buying an open box computer. I've had nothing but bad luck with "floor models". Even something as mundane as a lamp. It looked to be in good shape, the switch worked, the bulb lit, but shortly after I got it home the switch failed. Why? Because everyone (well, at least two people) that walked by that lamp for as long as the lamp was there had to try the switch.

That's what they do when people buy a computer. They feel the need to 'test' the computer out even though it's new. I never understand why they do that, but never cared to ask.

It prolly was a sales tactic. Even though I'm an advicate for Best Buy, I don't condone these things. Revenue is revenue, and the last thing I want to see is more people out of jobs.
