I have one as a second 'utility' player. I haul it around everywhere and like it. It plays a few things my main player (Toshiba) won't. I've also hacked it so it can record to vcr (kid's dvds) and is supposedly region free as well but all I have are region 1 discs.
It's a cheap player so I don't know what kind of lifespan to expect, but I've been very pleased with it so far.

nope, I do that beforehand, then enjoy the purchase afterward, knowing that I did my homework beforehand and got exactly what I was expecting
maybe I am just weird like that?

I ordered one from Amazon. I like it. When you first get it, you may have to push the drawer in hard until you hear a click to get it to eject. You only have to do it once then it works perfect. The one I got from amazon did have one of the serial numbers that is hackable.
