reviews wanted: The Shipping News

has anyone seen any DVD reviews for The Shipping News yet?

it's not due out for another two weeks but i've seen plenty of reviews for discs coming it later than that so you'd think there ought to be some review available by now..

Likewise. I saw a banner ad for the DVD and searched for a review, and was shocked to come up empty-handed.

are Buena Vista tardy when it comes to sending out review copies (or maybe they don't do that at all) or are the DVD review sites simply uninterested in this disc (since the film was no hit).. just gotta wonder since it's in less than a week and not a single of the major sites have a review..

heck, the online store i was going to buy it from even have it in stock but i don't want to see a review first so i don't buy a disc with some major problems or something. it's a new film so the video and audio ought to be pristine but i'm not up for taking a gamble..

argh.

I really enjoyed this film. It is so well done that it practically feals like you are reading a novel. It's very dense and very well told. Yes, it's a bit slow, but it's a great character piece.

The Shipping News?

How is the movie, The Shipping News? I'm a fan of Lasse Hallstrom, and have enjoyed everything he's put out since "My Life as a Dog." I also admire Moore and Spacey. It seems like no one has seen it though. To those that did, how was it? Is it worth an unseen purchase?

I don't quite understand the critical backlash when this film was initially released. I thought it was equal to Cider House Rules for performances by a great cast. Solid story....that kept moving the plot along. I thought Judi Dench was perfect.

I went to Blockbuster yesterday to rent a movie and I picked Shallow Hal. I opened the box today and to my surprise I saw The Shipping News, and let me tell you what a gem! I saw Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore and Cate Blanchett, I thought why did I never hear of this movie?

The acting was great and the scenery is incredible, the movie really kept my interest the entire time which is rare for a movie for me. And of course Cate Blanchett in a thong is worth the price of renting alone.

The movie is directed by Lasse Hallström who also directed Chocolate and The Cider House Rules. If you liked any of the aformentioned movies you will like The Shipping News.
