GTA3 for PC...(cool game) System Requirements.

Just got this game and WOW is it ever fun. Just thought I'd share my experience with getting it to actually run so others can be prepared.

When I bought the game yesterday my system specs were: 800mhz Duron, 256mb PC133, 32mb GeForce 2MX. The result was a maximum workable resolution of 800X600 with a crappy frame-rate.

About an hour later my specs changed to this: 800mhz Duron, 512mb PC133, Geforce3 Ti 200. Now I'm running in 1152X864 with all effects on and the draw distance at about 75% and a nice steady frame-rate.

My advice is, if you have the minimum specs I wouldn't bother with it. I started out with the recommended specs and you see what I got. I was lucky that I had a little extra cash to spend to get a new vid card and more memory.

That being said this game is just too much fun

How do you check frame rate in the game? I'm running it with a 1.4 Athlon, but using a Geforce 2 GTS and think the frame rate dips down a lot....

There is a file you can download and add to the game that will give it to you. Go here: www.fraps.com

Think about how much it just cost you to upgrade your system, just so you could play this game.

For that much, you could've bought a PS2 and GTA3...possibly more.

This is why I've pretty much stopped playing PC games. The cost has gotten rediculous.

Yeah, but he won't have to upgrade for a while, and will be able to play plenty of games in the coming year. 256MB of ram and GF3-Ti200 doesn't cost as much as a PS2 anyway.

He could have played it at PS2 resolutions just fine with the hardware he had, but he wanted more. If it was choppy at 800x600, it likely would have been smooth at 640x480 or (imaginably) lower.

I'm playing it at 1280x1024 smooth-as-silk on my GF4-4600 in a P4/2200mhz. 1600x1200 runs fine but I don't like my refresh rate at that resolution (just 60hz).

Yeah, I could have. But Then again I only spent $180 on my upgrade and game.

Hmm, let's see PS2 $199+GTA3 $39-49+Memory Card+Quality A/V cables+Tax=a lot more $$ and poor resolution. Besides I already have an Xbox and Dreamcast for my console gaming needs.
