Finally got my first DTS reciver, but now i'm lost

I hooked up my DVD Player as instructed, which took almost every RCA cable in my house. I have that working just fine, along with my cable, VCR, and GameCube, but I can't get the Subwoofer to work on anything but the DVD line. Is this all that I will get, or do I not have one of the settings correct? The model of the Reciever is Pioneer VSX-D509S. I would appreciate any help with this, and if anyone has a cerwin vega center channel, or floor speakers they want to sell let me know.

Sounds to me like there is a setting in the Receiver that needs to be changed. I am not familiar with that model but it may have to do with the speaker size you have chosen or whether or not you are using auto decode on each source.

you need to get the main L/R, center, and surround speakers to "small"

also, you only need 1 RCA cable from the dvd player to the receiver (for digital audio - unless you are using the video switching or dvd-audio/sacd)

To use the DTS, don't have to have one wire running from each speaker's audio out port into the DVD audio in port on the reciever? Still can't find out how to turn the sub on all time.

I am sorry I truly do not understand what you are saying.

Perhaps try disconnecting the dvd player and see if the sub will play?

The receiver you have has both DD and DTS decoders so you do not need to use the 5.1 outputs and inputs on your DVD player and receiver, respectively. All you need is to connect a digital audio cable (or any 75 ohm RCA cable) from your DVD player's digital audio out to the digital audio in on your receiver. You may also use an optical cable from your DVD player's optical out to the receiver's optical in. Either of these options will pass the digital audio bitstream from the DVD player to the receiver. The decoders in your receiver will then do the processing.

You may also have to go into your DVD player's set-up menu and enable the DTS function.

As for the sub not playing, make sure you turn it on in your receiver's menu. Just toggle the "SUB" function from OFF to ON.

Hope this helps.

Wow, using the coaxial was SOOOOOO much easier than all those cords. Thank you. And that made the Sub work for all settings as well. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me again.
