Broken XBox, please help!

I'm having some serious trouble with my Xbox. When I turn it on, the power works fine, and the solid green light comes on. When I try to open the drive, by pressing the larger button, the light just flashes, and the Xbox makes a noise like it is trying to open, but it does not. Has anyone else here experienced this problem? I would appreciate any advice you could give me. I've read a few articles online, with little success, and my machine was one of the ones made in Mexico, if that helps. Thanks.

Is it possible that the DVD/CD Tray could have been stripped. It sounds like the motor is working but the gears to open the tray are stripped. The only way I know of this happening is when you screw around with it and push it against the action it is trying to perform (i.e. opening and closing). Is it possible this could have happened (i.e. siblings or kids)?

Buy a new one. It's only $200 now. That's chump change, whereas $300 is a ton of money.

I think most stores check the serial number. I doubt you'd be able to pull what Damn Skippy suggests. However, if you bought it at one of those places with store warranties, like Best Buy or Electronics Boutique, just bring it back and get a new one. Assuming you got the warranty that is.

By the way, did you ever have any Blockbuster discs in that system? I've heard of problems with the stickers they put on that increase the thickness of the disc, and sometimes jam the tray.
