I haven't seen any reviews, either. However, the film was recently restored a few years back and played in several large cities. This bodes well for the DVD release. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed, anyways.)

(With all that said, if you don't know the film, Altman had his cinematographer "treat" the film stock so that the movie has an "old Western" look about it. (If it looks grainy to you, it's meant to look that way.))

Thanks, Hob .

Getting used to the nicknames will be a bit difficult, but the more relaxed atmosphere that goes with that will be most welcome.

Robert George, thanks for the excellent review. I'm looking forward to picking up this title. Hopefully, Three Sisters and Images will follow.

I've very happy to see you on this site, Robert. I've been following your DVD software and hardware reviews since I got into this hobby in 1998.

Thanks again for the welcomes.

I've been browsing this forum this weekend and I have found quite a number of interesting people and topics. Looks like a regular stop on the 'net for me now.

Just finished watching this, and I have to second Obi's excellent review.

Having seen McCabe about a dozen times in theaters over the years, I have never seen it looking so good. The print shows a bit of wear (occasional lines & scratches) but is in pretty decent shape. And as long as you realize the muted colors, film grain, snow effects and soft focus are intentional, you should be very pleased with the transfer.

And the mono soundtrack, dense as it is with overlapping dialogue and other ambient sounds, is as clear as one could hope. I certainly picked up on lines of dialogue I had trouble hearing in the theater.

Thanks, Warners! Now, MGM, bring on The Long Goodbye!
