Just got PS1, need game recommendations

I just bought a PlayStation 1 and I need some game recommendations. I like games like Sonic, racing games, and classic arcade games. I do not like fighting-type games. Thanks.

If you like Sonic, you might like Crash Bandicot (or however you spell it). As for racing games, you can't beat GT2. You also should check out Metal Gear Solid.

If you don't like RPGs you might be kinda bored. Are there any RPGs you've liked in the past?

^ Couldn't find a bigger pic?

The absolute best racing games for the PSX are Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2.

The best replay value of any games on the console. Will keep you busy for months and months.

- Ridge Racer 4 (get it with the jogcon for extra excellent racing)

- Metal Slug X

- Dead or Alive

- Soul Blade

- Twisted Metal 2 or Rogue Trip (avoid TM 3/4)

- Brave Fencer Mushashi (very Zelda like)

I prefer Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit over the Gran Turismo games. Those are hardcore simulation games, as opposed to good ol' racing. Heres some others:

-Silent Hill (beats any Resident Evil)
-Tenchu (kinda fighting, but not just 1 on 1)
-Ace Combat 3 (great Flight combat)
-Metal Slug (Rules!)
-Die Hard Trilogy 1 (Still one of the best games...3 in 1)
-Driver/Driver 2 (Great Racing/Mission/Smashing cars game)
-Metal Gear Solid (Of Course)
-Ape Escape (Best Platformer on the PSX)
-Pepsiman (IF ya can get a hold of an IMPORT copy and a MOD)

Theres simply too many to name

Some I like:

- Ridge Racer series (arcade racing)
- Spyro the Dragon series (3d action adventure)
- Ape Escape (3d action adventure)
- Crash Bandicoot series (3d action adventure)
- Colony Wars (space fighter)
- Einhander (3dish shooter)
- Xenogears (rpg)
- Legend of Legaia (rpg)
- Breath of Fire (rpg)
- Grandia (rpg)

You should also go to one of the gaming sites and check their reviews for ideas of games to get. Gamespot has a recommended games section (www.gamespot.com)

You MUST get Metal Gear Solid.

Also, Tony Hawk and GT2.

Parappa the Rapper is also fun, but very short.

spend some time looking at allgame.com

It will show you decent reviews, etc. for most games.

Geezus people still play that crappy PS1 console with all those lame games?

*casually closes the closet door on his PS1 game collection*

PS1 has hands down some of the greatest RPGs ever for any console. Even if you've never been a fan of RPGs I'd give them a shot, there's almost guaranteed to be one that you'll like. Nearly every Square RPG is worth a look.

Metal Gear Solid is regarded as probably the best game for the console, you may want to rent it or borrow it from a friend if you're not into fighting games. Its more straight-forward, shoot-anything-that-moves cousins are the Syphon Filter games. If you like having more guns than you know what to do with those games are for you.

Another vote for Tenchu as well. Replay value is sorta variable but each stage has 3 different set-ups for enemies and if want to see your score screen as "Grandmaster" for all of the stages you'll be playing that game almost as long as Final Fantasy 7.

One thing to keep in mind is that the console is showing its age and graphics wise it will not measure up to the newer ones or most PC games but it's all about the gameplay and some of those games are just more fun to play than some of the throw-away games for PS2, Xbox, etc.
