i am looking for more games with both first person shooter and coop play through levels (more than 1 on 1) . (like halo and the older marathon mac series)
i have tried searches to check new games coming out, but i cant select between 2 player (1 on 1) and 2 player (2 vs game)...
anybody know about the new castle wolfenstein or medal of honor?

The most obvious for the XBox is Halo. It's a real blast playing Co-op mode.
For the PS2, Half-life has a side story involving two other characters that is co-op. Twisted Metal Black also features a co-op mode in addition to a bunch of different death match modes.

For 2 player cooperative play, go no further than Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance for PS2 (and soon for Xbox, I hear). No split-screen, gorgeous graphics and effects, and relatively easy to learn. I played it through with my girlfriend, and recommended it to some other couples who also swear by it.
A friend from work I told about it got it for $30 at EB yesterday with his PS2.

thanks MrK , that game was on my list but i was unsure about what 2-player really meant. the screenshots look incredible... is it more action, role-play, or combo of both?

Mostly action- there are plenty of leveling-up decisions to make, but the game is definitely linear and has more in common with Diablo on the PC (or PS1) than anything else.
