Best Song that Opens a CD? What are your Favorites?
I fiddled with the title of this thread, yet I'm still not happy with it. What I'm aiming for are songs that appear as the first track on any given disk. What are your favorites? Songs that grab you right off and take you somewhere, or set the tempo for the next 40 to 80 minutes of music.
Do you follow me?
Some examples of mine:
Stinkfist, off the album Aenima by Tool.
------->as far as I'm concerned this is the most aggressive and in your face intro ever. it pulls me in immediately and really sets the tone of the album. It's purely genious and intoxicating.
Moon Baby, off the self-titled Godsmack album.
------->again with song it's about aggression, and build-up, the dialog to open it is appropriate and the volume swell really get's you moving.
Just Got Wicked, off 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage by Cold.
------->not quite as heavy but still I like this and it really pulled me on my first listen, getting me hooked quickly.
The Grudge, off of Lateralus by Tool.
------->again with the build-up and the powerfull intro, great vocal presence, great vibe overall.
There are many more, but I'm curious what some of your favorites are and why. Perhaps I'll take a listen if I'm not familier, you should do the same.
The examples above are all on the heavy side of music, please don't think yours have to be, I like all kinds of music, these were just some that really take me in.

Radiohead- Kid A - Everything in It's Right Place
also I always thought
Signs Of Life to start A Momentary Lapse Of Reason by Pink Floyd was an excellent start to the album even though I think the album as a whole isnt that good.

Just off the top of my head, "Man in a Suitcase" - from Geezer Butler's second solo album, Black Science - pretty much rocks as an opener.

I've always been a fan of the way the Reign in Blood album by Slayer starts. Silence, then BOOM! you're thrown full force into classic thrash metal nirvana

some good ones I hadn't thought of, Blind by Korn. Welcome to the Jungle, etc..
I'm downloading some that I haven't heard of. Keep it coming.

Two by the Cure have always impressed me:
"Plainsong" from DISINTEGRATION
"100 Years" from PORNOGRAPHY
the phrase "knock you on your a$$" comes to mind...
