I have my sony receiver in the auto format decoding mode and when I discovered when I select DD 2.0 stereo audio track it is decoded as pro logic (mono rear channel). Anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks

Depends on the source material. Some DVD's default to this track which is annoying!
Readers should note that not all Dolby Digital soundtracks have 5.1 channels of audio. Those that are have the designation "Dolby Digital 5.1". Since Dolby Digital is a flexible surround sound format that supports up to 5.1 channels, Dolby Digital soundtracks could have one channel of audio (mono, designated as "Dolby Digital 1.0"), two channels of audio (stereo or Dolby Surround Pro-Logic, designated as "Dolby Digital 2.0"), or five channels of audio (designated as "Dolby Digital 5.0"). In fact, the Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack is required for all Region 1 (U.S. and Canada) DVDs. To learn more about Dolby Digital, read this Dolby Digital reference page.
DD 2.0 is Dolby ProLogic. Different names for the same thing. It sounds like you don't want the surround and center split that ProLogic provides? If not, there should be a 'music' setting of some sort on your receiver that will force it to play only through the front 2 speakers like a standard audio CD would.
DD 2.0 is 2 channel, but is meant to be surround with mono rears, so I'm not sure exactly what your issue is.

thanks for the replies, you answered my question. I usually never bother with DD 2.0 but when listening to the Last Waltz dvd i decided to change from 5.1 to 2.0 to listen to the difference and thats when I wondered why it came out in pro logic.
