what is most surprising is that the GC has 3 games with only 1 for the XBox and that game is last at 20. I was surprised to see 3 PS1 games in the top 20 also.

By genre (I was very loose with my genre definitions in order to KISS):

Third Person Shooter: 5 games
Platformer: 4 games
Sports: 4 games
First Person Shooter: 3 games
Fighter: 2 games
Racing: 1 game
RPG: 1 game

gcribbs: There are actually 2 Xbox titles (19 & 20).

Yeah 'Grand Theft Auto 3' is selling unbelievably well! Talk about your "killer app". After five straight months at #1 it finally falls down one spot as Nintendo's fat plumber shows he can still bring in the sales. This bolds well for Mario Sunshine, whenever Nintendo decides to release it.

Sega's Sonic titles showing some great staying power. The GCN/GBA connection between the games seems to be a big plus. Third parties are sure to notice and this may bring more Gamecube games in the future (Final Fantasy GCN/GBA connection already rumored).

Interesting to see 'Agent Under Fire' for GCN outsell the Xbox version. Although this probably has more to do with Xbox owners still playing 'Halo'. Still it's nice to see "mature themed" games can sell on Gamecube. 'Halo' and 'Smash Bros.' still on the charts showing incredible staying power.

On the down side, it seems three high profile Xbox titles have tanked. 'Jet Set Radio Future', 'Gunvalkyrie', and 'RalliSport Challenge' all failed to break into the top 20. I don't own 'Gunvalkyrie' but I do own the other two and it sucks that these games are being overlooked by the majority of Xbox owners.

But not surprising. It’s the only FPS on the Cube, and Xbox owners have a far better entry in the genre: Halo.

Aug. 26 in the U.S.. And it does bode well, which is big part of why Nintendo is projecting to sell 12 million GCNs world wide by the end of the year.

This is a problem with the X-box, many of it's exclusives are niche market titles.

Jet Set Radio is a niche market, love it or hate it game. The DC original was the same way. They're cult hits that fans love and others hate.

Gunvalkyrie is apparently the same way, and has been plagued by bad to mediocre reviews.

I'm not sure about Rallisport. That should have sold well I'd have thought, unless rally racers aren't all that popular.

I think you hit it right on the nose. Rally racers, although really cool, fit right into a niche market. Many young gamers are looking for the "Fast and Furious" racing type. Too bad they're missing out on a really tight game.

Didn't 007 come out for the GC a week or two before it was released on the Xbox? Or am I just imagining this?

That's a good point. According to IGN, 007 came out for GCN on 3/12 and for Xbox on 3/15.

It will be interesting to see where the Spiderman games rank on all systems for the April sales numbers.

Doesn't the GC have less games than the xbox? If so, the fact that the GC has fewer games than the xbox will tend to help keep GC titles in the top 20 (GC owners buying the same games) while xbox with more titles to choose from gets it's sales spread a bit thinner across more titles.

An interesting stat would be TOTAL games sold for xbox vs. GC. for the month of March 2002.

Not really surprising to see 3 PS1 games in the top 20. Those games are cheap...20 bucks or less, making them great impulse buys. Also, I'm sure GTA3 has done quite a bit to help GTA2 enter the top 20, and it may have even helped Driver 2 do so as well.

I was surprised to see that the Xbox was only able to manage 2 games in the top 20 though. Microsoft really needs to get some of their big guns going...

Agent under Fire sold better on the GC than XBOX does make sense.

Think of it....For XBOX owners you have HALO or OO7....hmmm which one will you pick..hmmmm yea HALO. For GC owners....well you only have one pick...yup Agent Under Fire.

Virtua Fighter 4 is also a "niche market," technical fighter. I think JSRF and Gunvalkyrie would have made more money on PS2, and Sega will see that too.

JSRF is eventually coming to PS2. The point is moot, console-wars wise, though if it sells better on PS2 it may demonstrate something to Sega. Of course, Sega is indebted heavily to Microsoft, and MS may still be subsidizing Sega's games.

Virtua Fighter has always sold well and been very popular, right up their with Tekken, so I wouldn't consider VF4 a niche market title.

Of course those games, as well as any X-box or GCN game, would have sold more units if they were exclusive to the PS2 instead. The PS2 has a much, much larger user base, so that's common sense.

The GBA is SUCH a cash cow for Nintendo. I knew it would do well, but good grief. Even if they never sell another Game Cube, Nintendo's gotta be happy.

Yep, plus they make a killing on their first party software. Pretty much all their first party GBA and GCN games are a sure thing to top the charts when they come out.
