What subtitles and languages are typically included on Region 2 titles? Thanks.

Considering that R2 encompasses Europe, Japan, South Africa, and the Middle East, this is pretty much an unanswerable question.

" What subtitles and languages are typically included on Region 2 titles? Thanks. "

- WHICH "Region 2"? ... Region2/Japan DVDs - which are NTSC-encoded?

- OTHER "Region 2" areas? ... these include Western European countries (the UK, France, Germany, etc.) , Near Eastern countries, and the Republic Of South Africa - the DVDs in these Region2 countries are PAL-encoded!

...for instance:

° German Director Tom (Lola rennt) Tykwer's latest movie Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (released 2001) starring his SO Franka Potente has been released as a very generously endowed German DELUXE 2 DISC EDITION (on the WB label, in a SCANAVO keepcase) that boasts an anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer of the 130-minute movie, two German (only!) running commentaries, German (only!) DD 5.1 and dts 5.1 soundtracks, optional German (only!) subtitles (feature only!), as well as optional German (only!) captions for the HoH...

° German Director Volker (The Tin Drum) Schlöndorff's 1996 movie Der Unhold (The Ogre) starring John Malkovich is available on a German DVD (on the BMG label, in an AMARAY keepcase) that boasts an anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer of the 112-minute movie, a German (only!) running commentary by the Director, German DD 5.1 and English DD 5.1 soundtracks, some extras including a 30-minute "Making Of...", as well as optional German (only!) captions for the HoH...

° French Director François (Les 400 Coups) Truffaut's 1980 WW2 story Le dernier Métro starring Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu has been released (on the French mk2 label, in a clear AMARAY keepcase) as part of a uniform Truffaut Series and features a (French only) mono sound track, an anamorphic 1.66:1 transfer of the 127-minute movie, a very generous 60+ minutes of extras, plus optional English subtitles for the feature AND all the extras! (but, quaintly, no French subs or captions)...

° French Director Alain Berbérian's 1999 Se7en-wannabe serial killer movie Six-Pack (yup, that's the original title!) starring Richard Anconina, Frédéric Diefenthal and Chiara Mastroianni (daughter of Catherine Deneuve and the late Marcello Mastroianni) has been released (on the French Studio/Canal label, in a clear AMARAY keepcase) and features (French only!) DD 5.1 and dts 5.1 sound tracks, an anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer of the 106-minute movie, a few extras, and no subs or captions in any language...

° a restored, high-definition-remastered DVD of French Director Marcel Carné's classic 1939 drama Le Jour se lève starring Jean Gabin, Jules Berry and Arletty has been released (on the Studio/Canal label, in a single DigiPak) and features a (French only!) DD 2.0 mono sound track, a few extras, and optional Spanish and English subtitles (feature only)...

° a remastered anamorphic 2.35:1 DVD of French Director Philippe de Broca's delightful 1962 swashbuckler Cartouche starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Claudia Cardinale has been released (on the Studio/Canal label, in a single DigiPak) and features French and (shudder!) English DD 2.0 mono sound tracks, a few extras, and optional English subtitles (feature only)...

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

...just for the hell of it, here are the specs for the Australian (Region 4 PAL) release (on the UNIVERSAL label) of Kathryn Bigelow's 1995 Sci-Fi epic Strange Days: "anamorphic 16:9 transfer", English DD 5.1 and Spanish DD 5.1 soundtracks, optional Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish and Dutch subtitles, as well as English captions for the HoH, Trailer, Featurette, 50 minutes worth of Director's Commentary - and a 4-page booklet with production notes...

...and the Australian COLLECTOR'S EDITION of Paul Verhoeven's 2000 Sci-Fi thriller Hollow Man offers English DD 5.1 and Hungarian DD 5.1 soundtracks, as well as optional English, Greek, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Icelandic, Hindi, Hebrew, Bulgarian, Dutch, Turkish, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian and Arabic subtitles (plus a very generous supply of extras)...
