Most disappointing new release ever?
I was thinking about this today. Which new release really disappointed you when you heard it? I would think that the longer you had to wait for the new album to come out would be a large factor in this. My choice came down to 2 albums, Sepultura's Against, and Danzig 666. For the Sepultura album, this was their first with the new lead singer, and it was just a huge let down. Danzig 666 was just a turd. This was my man Glenn's second techno crappy effort. The first one Danzig 5 Blackaciddevil was nothing great, but it was ok. But, Danzig 666 was bad. So my #1 has to be Danzig 666 with Against a very close second. Other nominations that some friends had were Metallica's Load and Rakim's 18th Letter.

Metallica's "Black Album." My once beloved Metallica was reduced to another Bob Rock-produced hair metal band with a -gag- ballad. Short radio-friendly songs with slick production.
I then knew how Neil Young and David Bowie fans must've felt during the 80s.

I also was bitterly disappointed with Live's "V".

Anything post-"The Bends" by Radiohead has left me bitterly disappointed.
Other recent disappointments include the latest albums by NewOrder, U2 and Erasure.

If I have to pick just one I'll go with Oasis' "Be Here Now".
Others that come to mind include:
Stevie Nicks/"Street Angel"
Duran Duran/"Seven And The Ragged Tiger" - Not a terrible album, but a BIG letdown after the classic "Rio"
Aerosmith/"Get A Grip"
Page & Plant/"Walking Into Clarksdale"
Culture Club/"Waking Up With the House On Fire"

Hmmm it's hard to choose because it's a rare occasion that a cd dissapoints me that I was looking forward to.
The new Korn album is a dissapointment, but it isn't even out yet so I won't count it.
I will second the Black Album by Metallica. It is a great album musically, but it was a turn that I didn't enjoy much from ...And justice for all.

Kid A and Amnesiac -
Also a dance album from a group called PHATS AND SMALL - they had a great infectious single called "Turn Around" but the entire album "Now Phats What I Small Music" all the songs sounded all the same. What a disappointment.

Midnight Oil - "Blue Sky Mining" - because at the time it was touted as being their "Joshua Tree" breakthough
Prince - "Emancipation" and nearly everything thereafter
Stone Roses - "Second Coming" - hurry Jesus, 'cuz this band's dead
Depeche Mode - "Exciter" - ballad after mid-temp ballad after ballad, anything but exciting
Fatboy Slim - "Halfway Between the Gutter and Stars" - Where's the funk-soul brotha when you need him?
Smashing Pumpkins - "MACHINA/The Machines of God" - Where did the fantastic squeaky-goth, retro-technopop sound of "Adore" go?
Pearl Jam - "Binaural" - played it once, never want to play it again
Michael Jackson - "Invincible" - because I was actually rooting for the albino, plastic surgery freak to make a come-back

same thing here with the Fatboy Slim album, have the singles, some great non-album tracks but the album itself is really a let down.
Also, the new Chemical Brother album really wasn't what I was expecting. The overhyped "It Began in Afika" is annoying. Listened to it once, the new stuff is best heard live, where it
s loud and the bass is on dance mode.
