Rip City
So, I am in the process of ripping all 400+ CDs in my collection at 320bit. I can't tell you what a boring process this is. I am going to get one of those front end MP3 players that connects to the computer via ethernet and to the stereo via fiber.
Question: I am looking for one of these devices that will use the television for navigation, anyone know of such a thing yet?
The stand alone devices have 20 to 40GB hard drives, I have determined that this isn't going to be enough, I figure my 400 CDs will occupy about 60GB at 320bit. So, that brings me to my second question
Question: Are these stand alone players being hacked a la Tivo?
What are your experiences?

Perhaps its just me but....
.... we seem to be getting an increasing number of "technical" &/or soft/hardware threads in a forum that is described as being to "discuss digital music in all its forms".
For those tempted to say "but these posts relate to music" I'd simply point out that DVD posts on hardware and software issues from the forums in place specifically to discuss the contents of the medium itself are moved to either of those two specialist/technical forums where necessary.
This tends to be a forum where "hands-on" is not needed sp much as some of the Others. Would posters please at least consider the options?
BTW I'm not saying people here won't be interested, or will have nothing to say (far from it) but either the Computer or the Hardware often seem to be more appropriate. And some smart and knowledgeable people do hang out there, you know
