Tampopo DVD... worth buying?

I am interested in buying the Tampopo DVD, but I could not find anything on the internet about the quality of the DVD. I know it doesn't have any extras, but if the quality is above average, then I would consider buying it.

I have the tampopo dvd, the quaility is good, i have no compaints about the transfer. no insert, and the cover is ok, no extras like you said, it's one of my favorite japanese movies, so i had to buy it. if you like the movie and can find it cheap, go for it. if your so so on the movie, i would skip it if i were you. I would say its worth $8 to $11, i love the movie but i wouldn't spend more then that for it.

Hope this helps

Since this thread is questioning the merits of the Tampopo DVD, I'm moving this to DVD Reviews.

...taken from the films on disc review:

...Tampopo is not a great bowl of DVD soup. Some scenes are slightly washed out and others are soft. There is excess edge enhancement used to extract more than the transfer elements can offer. The colors do have enough life to bring a bowl of noodle to soup to simmering life. The white subtitles appear on the 1.85 image and are removable. The Dolby Digital 2-channel sound is tinny, but somehow seems appropriate to the mood of the film...

I thought it was a great movie. I watched it first on film in a film class. The movie itself is definitely worth the money althought the packaging is rather plain. I got it for 20 bucks and thought it was worth every penny. I can't really comment on the quality of the dvd since I am no expert. To me anything better than vhs/vcd/cable is pretty good.

Thanks for the feedback. I really like this movie, but I guess I can wait until a better quality DVD is released.
