Crackling Sound

I just purchased a new DVD player for my home theater system through an online auction (my first mistake). Everything was supposed to be in "mint condition", but when I play music CDs (CD-R/RW, MP3, or Wave) I get a crackling sound in the background. These CDs work fine on my regular CD player. Any suggestions or answers?

step one, check the cables.

are your speaker wires coiled? that could be picking up electric noise.

are you sure it's not just distortion?

Positivie it's not distortion. Even running it through my TV gives me the same crackling sound. All cables were checked and plugged into all In/Out ports (to see if it was maybe just the port). Still get the crackling noise.

Did you try a different CD? I have some CDs that have a hissing sound when I play them in my friends car but they sound fine in mine.

hmmmm.....

does the crackling always occur at the same times during songs or random?

Does somebody near you have a cb radio? Do you live near an airport? Maybe you're picking up some kind of interference.

Maybe your speakers are just blown.

Try everything. there could be something loose inside the unit, was it shipped UPS?

Yes, the crackling occurs at the same points during the songs (and I have tried about 20 different CDs). The speakers are brand new, so they aren't blown.

As far as picking up interference...why would I pick up interference only when I play CDs on my DVD player, and not when I play them on my CD player?

It was shipped FedEx, but I have NO idea what could be loose inside.

I would try another audio cable from the player to the receiver.
