Bands nobody has heard of
I'm listening to a band right now that I'm sure most if not all of you have never heard of. They are called Stretch Princess. A co-worker of mine a few years back told me to give it a listen. It was such a slick little album that I'm still surprised it never made a dent anywhere. The album is so good, I still play it often after all this time. First of, have any of you heard of them? And second, can you recommend or name a band that produced a great album no one else heard of?

I have not heard stretch princess. Could you describe them?
Three criminally overlooked albums and bands, in my mind, are:
Vehicle Birth -- Tragedy
Released on Crank in 1998, this is a perfect math-rock album. Very good riffs, nice time changes, great vocals. A very very very good record. One of my favorites of all time.
Verbena -- Souls For Sale
Into the Pink got some recognition and some airplay, but this is their masterpiece. Perfect southern-rock in the vein of the Rolling Stones.
Hot Snakes -- Automatic Midnight
Featuring the reunion of two former Drive Like Jehu members, Auto Midnight, released in 2000, is a perfect punk record. Great guitar interplay, this is a very dirty album. Recommended to any punk fans.
Spoon -- Series of Sneaks
Their last album has garnered a lot of press, but Series of Sneaks is seriously overlooked. A great dirty pop album in the vein of Elvis Costello's This Year's Model. Great songs and great production.

Stretch Princess sound different on each song. The first song definitely sounds like a cross between Veruca Salt and the Go-Go's. Excellent opener. The second song, "Sorry", was used in one of those gazillion teen movies in the last few years. I'm thinking maybe it was "Killing Mrs. Tingle". Killer song, with killer hooks. Then a few tracks later, they sound like the Sundays.
Have a listen and give me your thoughts:

Band: Scheer - Album: Infliction...great band that broke up a couple of years ago. Their 2nd album isn't as good as Infliction, but still listenable.

Slobberbone - Any of their discs, but particularly "Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today" - Excellent alt-country/rock & roll
The Gourds - A bit better known, but perhaps the best Americana/roots music being made today
Elgin Park - Great Beach Boys-styled indie rock; a great summertime record

actually this band is pretty well known-- Marine Girls-- but they're really good. there's only one album you can get a hold of, because they're a pretty old band. but it's got thirty great songs on it. one of the women from it is in 'everything but the girl' now.
bite into fridays, 20'000 leagues, or all dressed up, if you have the capabilities
let me know if there's any other marine girl fans out there. i'm a boy and i like to know that i'm not alone.

If nobody's heard of a band, I haven't heard of them either (by definition), and therefore cannot list them here. In fact, it's impossible for such a band to exist, because the members would have to have heard of themselves.

God, there's always one in every group. No?

Rasputina - I've seen them described as gothic electric-cello rock, but it's really hard to classify them... defenitely worth checking out and they have a new album coming out the 9th!
I don't know anyone hardly who knows about them, they seem to be a hit with Bjork/Tori Amos fans though.

Featuring the reunion of two former Drive Like Jehu members, Auto Midnight, released in 2000, is a perfect punk record. Great guitar interplay, this is a very dirty album. Recommended to any punk fans.

Another band that no one knows about is Emmet Swimming, out of the Virginia/D.C. area. A fantastic band, one that has never gotten the success they deserve. Check out ARLINGTON TO BOSTON or BIG NIGHT WITHOUT YOU. Actually, any of their discs would make fine additions to your collections.

I hadn't checked out their website in a few months, so I missed that they came out with a Double Live and Triple Live set. I bought the Triple Live, and I'm glad I got it instead of the 2-disc set. The first disc is from a show in their current form, and the other 2 discs have older stuff.
Well darn, guess it's not a band that nobody has heard of.
